Planeing a zilla head
#1
Is it a good or bad idea? will i experience much power gains? How much should I get planed? When finished the bike will not be bored it will have carbon tech reeds and some sort of race air filter. also will it make the bike hard to start? Thanks for any help.

Shaving the head will increase compression, which will increase power. Yes, the bike will be "harder" to start. I personally would either leave the head stock or install a Cool Head. Your other option is to send the head to a performance for rechambering, etc. Is your cylinder ported? Do you have an aftermarket pipe? If not, more compression really isn't necessary.

One of the best ways to prevent blowing head gaskets is to have the head O-Ringed. Another thing, the Zilla had a problem from the start with predetonation which caused many of its problems. If your not building a race only machine, keep the compression as low as possible to make it live longer.

My zilla is not ported ut it does have a dg pipe. It is not a race only bike its kinda an all rounder. About cool heads some guy told me you must rebuild the engine often with a cool head. Btw when i say harder to start i don't mean harder to kick just will it be more unreliable

A Cool Head won't cause you to have to rebuild more often. Buy one with a close to stock dome in it. Otherwise, I would send the stock head in for rechambering and the O-Ring mod. More compression won't make it "harder" to start, but it will be harder to kick. A well tuned 2-Stroke (Carb dialed in, Good Reeds, decent compression) should always start fairly easily(2-3 kicks).

Cool head making you rebuild more/more comp making it hard to start.....
It amazes me the misinformation ppl will pass on.
I bet your glad you asked in here.
