it should run like that, but its dangerous. on an 87 since the piston skirt is the same on the front and back, the main reason for having the piston in a certain direction is so the ends of the rings dont catch on a port opening. on an 88 the piston skirt has a cutout, and two vent holes on the front side,so it needs to be pointed the right way for lots of reasons,if you catch a ring end on a port opening your in serious trouble

well finally got all the new parts, but, still runs the same. and now harder start than ever. still smokes when you rev it real hard. even my buddy that has a lt 250 r tried to start it and he says something is still not right. if you dont pull the plug out and spray in some gas you will never get it to start. im at a loss , can any body give me any ideas to what may be wrong with this thing?

wich way if any would cause it to be hard to start? would a lean condition or a rich condition cause problems to it as far as drawing gas into the cylinder on start up? like i say if you dont spray gas into the plug hole prior to trying to starting it , it will never start, and i mean you can kick on it till your foot falls off and you get nothing.. and yes i have had many lts so i know how tempermental they are on starting. but i now about the (trick) to starting them, man im lost here, somebody help pls.

hmmmm mine wouldnt start this year eiether unless i poured gas in plug hole. and it was the temp change made my pilot jet too small wasnt getting the gas . if you want to try something to find out and you dont have a pilot jet. turn air screw all the way in,and drop your clip on needle to the bottome this will steal gas from mid and main circuit. if this works u need a bigger pilot let me know how it goes
oh yeah if you have to add gas to get it to start id say lean condition.

thanks for the info! but i may have it figured out, i tried to start it today and same thing, notta, so i pulled the plug out and checked how good the spark was, i tried it with a few different plugs i had lyin around, well then i put the same plug back in it , the same one it wouldnt start with not five min. ago, but it fired right up first kick, and i didnt put any gas in it, so i pulled the plug boot apart and if that was the problem or not it had a crack down the wire a little, so i trimed it back a little and put the boot back together and it starts first kick every time now. wether that was the problem or not i dunno, it is kinda weird that it started right up with out putting any gas in it though, so i guess i will let it set for a few hours and see if it will start later. god i hope so, i will feel like an idiot but hey atleast it will start. maybe i wqas not getting any spark until i moved the boot around putting gas in the cylinder, i will let you know how it goes later, again EVERYBODY thank you all very much for the great advice...Eric

everything is going well, and i believe i have figured out the smokin that appears once in awhile, i think its trapped in the exhaust and when you get it up on a wheelie or get on it real hard or let the compression of the engine slow you down , the back pressure is pushing it up into the cylinder. i noticed the other day when i had it apart putting in the new parts there was some oil trapped in the exhaust, so today im takein it apart to clean that stuff out and see if that the problem..i hope so..
