King Quad 700 Reverse Failure Solution
#51
When I talked to Suzuki cust. service I tried and tried to get the guy to tell me the ecm will fix the reverse issue. They have really backed down from the wording in the letter. The best he could give me is we hope the new ecm will limit the amount of reverse failures. In my opinion the only thing the new ecm is going to do is prolong the inevitable. Hopefully they will do a mechanical fix if not Im afraid we will be breaking down after our warranty's are over.
EigerSlider I think you have a great Idea, count me in. Thanks for your work on this

I am buying the extended waranty today so I do not have to worry about the quad failing this summer with out any coverage. Has this problem caused anybody else to buy the warranty that might not have.

I'm buying an extended warrenty, I have the feeling that they might not cover it anyway...but it will save me 2000 bucks if they do! I hate gambling because I usally loose but...maybe it will be covered, or better yet maybe I'll never have to use it!
Pastor, You should wait till you can test-drive one with the updated EcM in reverse, be sure you have no problems with it, because several guys have been disappointed in the upgrade. Check it out at the highlifter site, they are starting to organize a formal protest, you might want to read some of the experiences before you jump in!
All along these ECM's seem to be quite different from one another, some have a bad hesitation, some don't. Some won't start in the cold, some fire up at -25 below. The thing that concerns me is that some of the quads that started in the cold with the old EcM won't start now! Other posts have guys that had hard starting problems completely disappear with the new ECM. I don't know what the difference is in these computers that would make that big of difference, but be sure your satisfied with the upgraded quad, and be sure it's the one you purchase. A dealer on the other site and I think it was even mentioned here said some KQ's are slower then others.
Mine has been great, it is the best quad I've ever been on for my style riding, it starts on two to 4 cranks in -35 below zero! It lifts the wheels in low even with 589's on it. But if all of this changes because of a mandtory EcM change, and all of a sudden my quad won't start when it's cool or has a bad hesitation...I'll be upset!
Somewhere in the fit and finish...there are different "maps" in some ECM's or somthing...maybe for different countries and emission laws? They must get mixed up in the ECM basket to have this many different results, Who knows? I'm guessing! I hope I get one that works as well as what I got or better...why else can one guy not get his to start at 20 above, and mine starts right up at -20? Why does the dealer say that one of the KQ's he got was a dog, and the rest were night and day different? Who knows? I just really don't want it to change too much! If it does, I'll be one of those whinners that feel like they did somthing horrible to my quad!
If you get one , be sure the modification has been done, and that you have the performance you want before you take it home, what a bumer to get a quad back with a different attitude and starting habits when you have had a "good" one to begin with! For those that have the poor starting issues, apperently it is corrected for many with the new ECM! The "time out" is a pain from the sound of it, mine should get the new ECM this week and I'll let you know what I think.
EigerSlider, I mentioned your idea on highlifter and if you set up a page for this I'll post it over there too, many of them said they will sign on if you do it!
Most of us just want the quad to not go south on us, customer service at Suzuki has not been helpful, they seem to know less about the issue then it says in their own letter, they have also told some that the reverse issue will not be covered beyond the standard 6 month warrenty, and if you want protection past that you better buy it! So yeah, some people are getting upset, we need Suzuki to come out and offer us another 2 years on the tranny, then we will know that they fixed the thing...and are not just putting off our failures until they can say "sorry warrenty expired". If it is fixed they need to do that!
If they still can't get it fixed and the ECM still allows for reverse failure, then they better start spending the money on the parts and get a solution that is as good as their name has been in the past!
Of all the people that could be at fault in this issue the customer is the last one that should have to bear the responsibility, I did not pay and would not pay 7,000 dollars for a quad that cannot be used to get you out of snow or mud in reverse. Again, Suzuki is wrong in saying every case has been abuse, many of these guys were not being wild on it at all, it just failed. For those of you that drive in snow, you know what I mean, how much resistance does snow make on parts? Almost none...it moves out of the way, tires spin freely with almost no weight on them, not a case where a reverse should blow out! Leaving you with a 2000 plus repair bill!
I really enjoy this quad, it deserves all of it's wins in the mags, it is that good, this reverse issue needs to be fixed and we will all sigh with relief!

What I propose is this; I found a web site that will allow us to host an Online Petition for free. People will read the petition and sign it digitally. We can post the weblink in this forum and others and simply have people visit it and read the petition then sign. Once we have collected a suitable # of signatures we can then have it sent to Suzuki in both countries, hell we can even have it sent to HO in Japan.
I have drafted a petition and would like people to give it a read and let me know your thoughts. MonZooki can you repost this in the other forum?
Here it goes:
TO:
SUZUKI CANADA INC.
100 East Beaver Creek Road,
Richmond Hill, Ontario L4B 1J6
Attention: Customer Relations
AND
American Suzuki MC/ATV Customer Service
P.O. BOX 1100
Brea, CA 92822
Attention: Customer Relations
We are sending you this petition as current and prospective owners of your new flagship ATV, the 2005 King Quad to express our extreme displeasure with your so called resolution to the reverse gear failure problem.
Providing an updated ECM module to reduce the available power to the rear drive system is a band aid solution to a defect in the mechanical engineering of the transmissions for these ATV’s.
Current Owners Position
We, the current owners of the 2005 Suzuki King Quad have signed this digital petition to put Suzuki on notice that while we accept this “temporary solution” to limit the potential failure of our reverse gears we in no way consider this problem resolved. We fully expect Suzuki to provide us with properly engineered parts to replace the defective transmissions that were shipped on our ATV’s regardless of current warranty status.
We also recognize that it may take a period of time to investigate this problem, create a new design and produce said design for shipment and installation on ALL 2005 Suzuki King Quad ATV’s with the weaker components. We are prepared to allow Suzuki until July 15, 2005 to resolve this issue to our satisfaction which will be stronger reverse gear parts not electronic performance reductions. At which time if Suzuki has not resolved the issue to the satisfaction of the majority of owners we will consider class action suits in both Canada and the United States of America.
Prospective Owners Position
We, the prospective owners of Suzuki King Quads have been following this reverse failure development with great interest. While we respect Suzuki and hold no malice or prejudice toward the company we would like it known that we support the Current Owners and their position in getting this flaw fixed. We take the opportunity to sign this petition and state that until Suzuki fixes this issue to the satisfaction of the majority of current owners we will NOT proceed with our purchase of your new flagship ATV. We also will stop our order of your ATV provided the dealer has not yet received it into inventory as it would not be fair to punish them for your problem.
Sincerely, The Undersigned

Wow...I am impressed. In reality, I don't know what else could be said to the manufacturer. The attitude and honesty displayed through this petition is exceptional. I hope that Suzuki responds positively. Where do I sign?

OK Folks, here it is, the link to the online petition is:
http://www.PetitionOnline.com/KingQuad/petition.html
If anyone cares to know, I have been the first person to sign it.
Let's get as many people to this site and sign it in as short a time possible so we can get it out to both office of Suzuki. I would say we should even forward it on to the HO in Japan.
