King Quad 700 Reverse Failure Solution
#41
Well let' s hope I get some response. Any info I get will be promptly posted here for all to see. I will wait out the next 2 days for an email response before I get on the phone and call the HO in Canada and see what trees I can shake. I really want this quad! I do not want one that I am going to have to second guess my choice of using reverse when in some rough terrain. I think if we had a central point to get people to register their complaints it would be great.
I think a digital petition that King Quad owners could register their problem and comments on with submission to Suzuki US & Canada would be a good idea. Something that could be registered with the search engines on the web and be publicly accessable. I will give Suzuki the rest of the week to answer me and then I will whip something together to host off my companies website and people can give it a look and see if they want to participate.

I just got off the phone with a suzuki customer service rep.I told him i was interested in purchase of multiple king quads and i was concerned of the reverse failures. His comments were quote:
1. There are no plans for a recall nor design change at this time.
2. A product update ecm had taken care of any problems.
3. All showroom models had to have the update before being sold.
4. Problems were brought on by user "stuck in deep mud and reving in reverse over 50mph for extended periods".
5. "If you can't move in reverse in 60 seconds then you probably aren't coming out and need a wench".
6. He was unaware of any failures of reverse after ecm update.
7. The engineers had tried to seize reverse up after the mod. and were unsuccessful.
8.The king quad would be quad of the year and that there was no cause for concern.

I got a kingQuad got it fixed, I beat the shxt out of it, in November, got stuck went from reverse to drive for about 30 minutes got un stuck and kept going. It is the best quad I've seen. I put the ecm in and I will keep driving it like I do, and the rest of the quad will just have to stay behind me

Interesting what the Customer Service Rep said and what user PITOU said. I wonder if perhaps those whose reverse failed after the ECM update did not already suffer some mechanical damage before the update went in. If so then an ECM cannot repair already existing damage and the next time the reverse was stressed it went out. Who knows??
I was at my dealer today grilling the service department on the KQ. We here in Atlantic Canada only started to see the KQ's in late November and so my dealer has only sold 8-9 units since then with no failures. So I guess time will tell. Those of you with new ECM's will have to be our long term testers.

With the time of year that the KQ has been released, just imagine the reverses going out when the KQ's get ridden alot more, not to mention that the mud season is coming up in the spring! If reverse burns out in the cold weather in the snow, what is gonna happen when they are stuck in the thick clay filled mud that alot of ATV'ers go through come spring and summer!!!!!!

sounds good to me Eigerslider! At least our concerns would be in a documentable form.
Seems to me that when the Eiger first came out they had a re-call that meant some extensive work on the quad and Suzuki stepped up, I expect them to now too! I only know of one guy ..this weekend that had new ECM and toasted reverse...the guy here (Hoosier). I am extremely interested in what they say to him!

Dealer opens on tuesday, so I'l take it in tomorrow. I plan on contact Suzuki Customer service also to hear what they have to say. Has anyone here ever had any quad spinning the tires 50mph in reverse for 1 minute straight?? Come on Suzuki get real.

It wont bother me too much if Suzuki will warantee the reverse if it fails after the six months. If they wont address the issue and we have problems in the future. It may be a bad future for Suzuki in the big bore market. This also a time that the dealers must get into the discussions as well. To give Suzuki the benifit of argument. They may be vary well working on a fix for the problem as we speak. The ecm may just be a short term solution until they can fully asess the problem. Im shure they wont want to put out a knee jerk reaction repair but rather have a proper fix that is proplerly tested and secure. I as well like the KQ, and hope to have many miles of reliable use out of it. I think its a little early too worked up yet.

I am getting a KQ inspite of this issue. This may seem foolish to some but I have confidence in this manufacturer that they will stand behind this product. The KQ is sweeping the ATV of the year polls in almost every publication (at least in big bore's). This is one machine that is a must have for me.
