King Quad 700 Reverse Failure Solution

The case however may not have to be redesigned so much as the parts inside it. I don't think the 05 owners should give up hope or shoot the manufacturer until they have had a chance to research the failures and test so replacement options.
Who knows, maybe in a few months you all will get another letter telling you to bring it in for an upgrade to the reverse parts as well.
Although I have checked on both the US and Canadian websites for Suzuki and can find no mention of this situation at all, it would be nice if the manufacturer would give us some information instead of allowing the rumor mill to run unchecked.

I would love to keep mine also, but unless they fix it with better parts I really don't want to keep it. My Vinson was a tank, thats why I purchased a KQ. I thought for sure the durabilty would carry over.

.....I believe in the next week or even few days...we will see THE TRUE FACE AND INTEGRITY OF THE SUZUKI MOTORCYCLE COMPANY.. watch, listen, and spread the word, either good or bad... expecially bad !
..here is a link to nyroc's site, with a close up photos of a 700 KingQuad exploded case..

Hey sounds like the ECM is a good fix if you only want 12 more miles of riding! LOL!
I was called by Suzuki because I had sent them a letter, in that call they said "with the new ECM you'll be able to use overide as often as you like, and the rev. idler will not fail" . Man tha tis really going to stink if the ECM does not fix the problem! This is when it gets ugly for them, the updated ECM quads start breaking reverse, then what do they do? Then when quads that have had nearly 2500 bucks in parts and labor into them break for a second time...that is when we will be able to find out who they are as a company! If they try to escape the problem by blaming us...we will scream so loud the dealers won't be able to sell what they have, and class action law suits will start popping up, etc.
I love this quad, they need to fix it.
It's not our fault for trusting the Suzuki name, it's not our fault for buying a first year quad, it's not our fault if the updated ECM dosen't work. They have to stand behind this, if they do it right no one will ever doubt their commintment to excllence ever again! They hide from this one , their future in ATV's is toast, you can't hide things anymore! I've got two freinds looking to buy a KQ...I told them to wait this out....
If they think they can afford to hang a design flaw on 10,000 quad owners without word getting out, they don't know the age they live in and desrve to go broke!
This can become their finest hour, how many people would buy Suzuki's future quads with absolute confidence... if they knew that even a big flaw will be fixed by Suzuki! Even a flaw that costs them money.
This can be fixed with a small amount of parts and the gear could be redesigned to carry the weight on a bearing, or if it's lubrication a few different options come open for them. It's not the parts that has them scared to fix this quad...it's the labor, and the 40% chance or so that the dealerships will mess up the quad trying to re-assemble it! But as expensive as it is to fix them right, I think they will do it, to not do so in today's information climate would kill them because they will loose sales in the future by even a greater number when this starrts to get out!
Good luck to you all, I'm going to keep using mine and hope for a real repair offered by spring!

Ok people, I have taken it upon myself to contact Suzuki Canada by email and given them the following information. I will keep you up to date with any responses:
"I am taking it upon myself to contact someone at Suzuki Canada to raise a flag of concern regarding the recent spate of reverse gear failures on your new 2005 King Quad. I am not currently an owner of a King Quad but was hoping to purchase one in the next 3 months, I am currently a 2002 Eiger 4x4 Auto owner. I notice on your website that you are using a link to ATV connection magazine as a reference for the new King Quad. Someone in Marketing AND Service should really go to that site and go into the forums and read the horror stories of current owners and their reverse gear failures, even AFTER having the new ECM module installed. I have included the link to the forum for you: http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...hreadid=436026
My identity in the forum is EigerSlider where I have been coming to your defense on this issue even though I do not own a King Quad but do believe in your company. It would seem that the new ECM’s are NOT fixing the problem and I think your engineers should be looking at beefing up the interior parts of the KQ for the 05 owners.
What my email really boils down to is this; the people (Current KQ and soon to be KQ owners) NEED, WANT & demand more information from Suzuki on this issue. What is Suzuki going to do for these machines and their owners if the ECM does not fix the failures? Is the 06 KQ going to have a better system? Most of the hostility from owners is due to the lack of information from Suzuki. Given the large # of units that this update covers (15000+ by my count if your VIN #’s are running sequential) and if they start failing in mass quantities you are going to see a backlash of epic proportions. In this digital connected age I do not think this is an issue Suzuki can sidestep or ignore. The King Quad is an exceptional machine, one I hope to own in the near future, but not without some concrete resolution to this issue from Suzuki.
Suzuki is at one of those defining points in company’s history, handle this issue in a World Class manner and fix it right for current owners and reap a windfall of priceless Public Relations and show the world that Suzuki is the King of the Quads. Or keep quiet and hope it all goes away until a stronger 06 model is ready and watch them sit in a warehouse collecting dust as no one will trust Suzuki anymore.
I love my Eiger; it has been an exceptional machine. My experience with this ATV is my basis for upgrading to the KQ but not without the reverse issue being resolved fully. We look forward to receiving more than just an automated reply that this message has been received and will be posting this message to the KQ forum on ATV Connection Magazine.
Yours truly,"

Nice job. I might add, this is on all of the boards, not just here.
I really truely believed that this was not as serious as some have made it out to be until the latest event occured. There is no reason whatsoever his reverse should of failed. He was doing nothing out of the ordinary, not buried in the mud, not full tilt in reverse, doing nothing any different than we would of probably done under the same circumstances. And he had the so called new ECM that was to make this all a thing of the past. If the idler gear can not hold up to this simple useage of reverse, what good is it?
A lot of people are waiting to see how all of this is handled by Suzuki. So far, in my opinion, they have dropped the ball. Letting this escalate to the point it has all over the internet without a valid explanation or quelling the fears of the 10,000 or so owners is bad for business. I'd be willing to bet that sales of this machine have dropped off the map. It is truely a shame as otherwise, this is a very nice machine.

EigerSlider....Job well done! If Suzuki has a problem with this...it truly is a sad indicator of a fine company going the way of many others. In fact, I want to apologize for a reply that i made in this thread previously. After reading all of these comments and the obvious and glaring problem here, I must put my support with my fellow Suzuki owners. I am on board on this. I have always been a Suzuki supporter...I want to believe that they will do right thing. Like I said...count me in on this.

This is my first Suzuki, and it is the first Quad I've purchaced new with any sort of price tag on it. I've not had a failure on mine, but I've had a fear all along, even after they called me that this might not be a real fix for the problem. Many of the guys on highlifter that broke their reverse were not "extensively using their override". Some had got stuck in snow banks and what not...but still I've had my doubts that they had it pinned when it broke, and many of them have come out and said..."hey it was only in override 30 seconds at half throttle when it snapped?".
We need to hear back on what they say about this failure that happened after the ECM was installed...now we all have to worry that it could be this damage is progressive and we all could already have started down the road to disaster by ever using the override! Something they assured me on the phone could not happen because"the quad will make a noise in reverse when being tested at the dealer that will give away the damage to the service team". They better get their designers on the next plane to your town and look at the quad that was "fixed" and see the damage.
We all need letters from Suzuki extending the warrenty beyond the 6 months on the tranny and engine at least. They have a problem, they need to fix it, and they need to get a guy out here in cyberspace to represent their efforts to fix this for the 15,000 people that put down on average 7,000 dollars for this quad!Or at least send us a new letter!
I would wait on buying this quad until it is resolved.
This is the best all around quad on the market today hands down...it is awesome , and even the fit and finish seem to be among the best...but the reverse issue is more then a "slight" stain on this quads reputation, it could finish it off! The aftermarket warrenty companies that are responsible for the repairs after 6 months..they will get a little excited about this too, and may take action to defend their own interests .... would you want to warrenty a quad that was going to loose the reverse gear in the first 300 to 1000 miles at a cost of 2500 bucks to you?
This next couple of weeks should play out very interesting for Suzuki!
