New KQ...589's or Mud lites?
#11
I've got the 589's on my KQ. 26x9...26x12. These tires are very puncture resistant, and do good on trails and great in snow and mud. I've never had a flat with these tires...and flats happen a lot out here! You loose some performance, some steering, I'm guessing 10% loss. But you gain the moment it's a tad bit slick or the firts sharp rock you hit. I'm useing stock rims so the idea is that these tires will help protect the rims...which are extremly lightweight! Hit one little stump with stock tires and it just folded up to the rim and dented the rim! Seen some guys online photos of stock tires foldeing when they hit a rock and putting a big dent in the rim...I'm avoiding that! My neighbor just bought a KQ and he put 26 mudlights on it...they look nice and in the snow seem to work about the same!

Just curious do you recommend that you get the rims also? How crappy are the stock rims on the King Quad anyone demolish one under normal trail riding? Are there any other tires you would consider like maybe mud bugs, gators, or the mudzilla's? How rough does it ride on pavement with the more aggressive tires? Just asking I have to ride about a quarter of a mile to get to the place I ride. Does the pavement chew the tires up. Thanks for any info you can provide.

thx Zookie for info...do you think i should upgrade to steel rims as a package deal with the 589's...thats what Ronnies.com is pushing me on...$555 for the whole package...they contend that if you buy the rim/tire package and you are trail riding in the middle of nowhere, you can "always limp back to camp and throw the stock package on and your back riding"....kinda like buying earthquake insurance in Ohio, unlikely but you never know...so do i buy the steel rims? ...thx

You'll loose some performance with the aftermarket wheels because they are heavier...but you gain having the ability to put the stockers back on for warrenty work....
589's last forever...you'll get tired of looking at them before they wear out! Even on hardpack they last pretty good.
The set of 589's I have has close to 700 miles on them, with no reduction in tread height, a few surface cuts, but nothing deep at all. They are heavier then the mudlights...probably by around 20 lbs on the whole quad...
