king quad owners
#1
Hello
I am in the market for my first atv.Myself and two buddies want to buy the same model. We have tested the king quad and are very impressed with the handling, power and accelleration. My reservation is this reverse failure problem and how suzuki is addressing these issues.I have found a dealer that will sale the king quad and yamaha grizzly for the same price. He also mentioned that he has leftover 2004 twin peaks complete with winch and snowplow for the same as well. Since the money is the same my questions are?
1. Which would you buy for 80% trail use and 20% work.?
2. Given the grizzlies proven track record does that give it an edge in dependability?
3. If we go with the twin peaks 700 dual carbs, will it suck more gas than the others?
Thanks so much for a reply. This forum is a wealth of knowledge and a rookie like myself wants to make the right
decision.

...This is what your exploding rear aluminum case will look like, after your warranty runs out (or before) on the KingQuad....

If you are standing in a Suzuki dealership looking at a KQ, turn and don't walk.......RUN out of there as fast as you can. The KQ reverse design is a problem that you will eventually pay dearly for in huge (after warranty) repair costs and accelerated depreciation. Don't buy one until they have a proven mechanical fix for the problem. If you insist on buying one, buy mine.

welcome to the forums.
Anything over 450 cc is gonna suck gas...efi, one carb, two carbs. In the winter riding i do, im lucky if i get 15 mpg, with a 450. Summer isnt alot better. Figure its just the cost of having fun.
If the grizz is brand new, and 05, there shouldnt be any problems...the weak axles and vapor lock on the carbs have been dealt with.
The grizz has irs, and the twin peaks is a solid axle. Both have their good points. But they will ride differently. Ask if the dealer will let you test drive them. They both have locking diffs, and both have enough power to satisfiy all but the most hard core riders. Be aware, the tranny in the twin peaks is the kawi one, not the more dependable suzuki tranny.
Personally , I wouldnt buy any quad, or truck or car, in its first year. lately it seems as if manufacturers are using the public, as their final quality control..let the first buyers figure out the weaknesses. I have a feeling the secondary market for the king is gonna be tough, and if you have one, youll be taking it in the shorts when you sell.
my 2 cents

the only one of the three that I have ridden is the Twin peaks. My Dad has one and we both love it, we have had no preblems with it whatsoever. We have ITP rims and Mudlight tires on it, and it will go anywhere with those tires. I would seriously consider this machine. The V-twin has ALOT of juice in it when you feel like going fast, and it sounds awsome too.

I have had the P650 and I own a 04 griz the P 700 is the fastest of them all and will be the better work vehicle with the SRA and with the V twin power, during breakin you will notice more gas usage after that it will be fine..Plus the winch and plow sounds good to me. The griz would be my next chioce, this thing is very powerful and If your a smaller person it will be a hand full I weigh 280 + and when I punch her from a dead stop the rear squats and the fronts in the air. I realize its because of the irs but still wow!I would stay clear of the KQ because of the reverse prob.Good luck to you and your friends.
