The 85-86 LT engine is based on the ts250x. The ts250x was not sold in the US. It was also known as RH in some countries. I've seen pictures of it and the engine looks very similar but it has an external reed cage and the LT's have case reeds. I would imagine the port timing is very different since 2 and 4 wheelers have different torque needs.

only the 86' and down LT's have case reed. the 87 and up have external.

p.s. sorry if i didn't understand what you meant by case reeds, i've never heard it said like that.

 

I was comparing the ts engine to the 85-86 LT engine. I saw a picture of a ts250x and the engine looked very similar to a 85-86 LT with the exception that it had an external reed cage like an 87-92 LT.
