Reweld it and put on a gusset kit at the same time if you're worried about it. My Z has seen some pretty hard desert riding as well and not one problem yet, but I also changed my suspension soon after buying it....

Just welding it won't likely strengthen the area up enough that it won't flex. If you dad has a welder he should be able to fabricate a gusset. A gusset is just a strengthening plate welded to make the area more rigid. Better shocks also help. If the paint is cracking, you are overtaxing the front. Either don't ride as hard, or get the frame beefed up.After fixing, I'd respray the gussetted area so you can occasionally check for new cracks in the paint. Don't use rattle can crap, get some good auto grade paint.

i had my frame crack all the way through. my dad just welded mine up and put 1/8 inch steel plate on the inside of the frame at the bend by the shock mounts. that has seemed to stop the cracking.
