OK on 87-92 lt250r's. you have to line up the gear on the crank with the counterbalancer gear, and there is a punch mark on each gear so you can line them up,but is there also a mark on the main gear and crank to make sure you have the crank and the main gear lined up correctly? What good would having the two gears(counterbalancer and main gear) lined up do if the main gear was wrong on the crank? With all the vibration questions i found by searching i figured this would have come up.i can ride until i figure this one out i dont want a cracked frame!!!,or numb feet and hands!!

ummmm hey addict as long as the 2 marks on other gears are aligned its done deal keyways take care of rest.... right? on 87 and newer that is. i thought 86 were only different as they have locating pin for water pump and that special washer on the balnacer drive gear. hmmmm

Sorry to be so sarcastic before... I guess I didn't realize you were asking for help.
There are 3 (THREE) stamped dots to align, not just two... The keyed shaft is only for the removable end of the counterbalancer.
The crank has one dot, the two other gears each have one... aligning these allows perfect timing of the crank to the counterbalancer...
Where most people goof is the last dot on the crank itself... its easily overlooked.
Hope this helps you out...

my clymer manual makes absolutely no mention of the third punch mark on the crank itself, but it is there. you have to have the main drive gear off,and just the counterbalancer drive and counterbalancer driven gear on,and you can see the mark on the crank. Absolutely no need to apologize,i dont think i was clear enough in my title
