I just recieved my 581 kit...the cylinder sleeve is aluminum and I understand that it needs to be Nikasil plated?.... anybody who did this kit I'm wondering where you sent it out to? I am also looking to port and polish the head...the machinist wasn't sure exactly how the quad responds to the 581 kit and web cam...so without the specs he was asking how I want it ported... what did you guys get done?

I was pretty disapointed b/c I didn't realize I would need the sleeve to be plated...I thought it was coming ready to be put in and bore out...also my kit didn't come with any instructions...are there any other mods that we may be forgetting?

I have never heard of a nickasil plating machine that any machine shop would have...they must be tons of money...I think in this case your best chance is to contact Mickey and ask him what to do. Because I know when I contacted him he said its a nickasil coated sleeve. Anyways what exactly did you buy out of the 581 kit and how much did it run you?

 

I just called and ordered the 581 big bore kit....it cost me about $300...but I didn't realize I would need the sleeve plated....which is probably expensive...I called and I got the machine saying he'll be in florida till tuesday night... hopefully he can tell me where to send it...

 

I was under the impression that the 581 kit required the cam to be ground, the case bored, obviously new sleeve with nikasil plating...and 581cc piston. But add ons were port and flow cylinder head which I have already done to mine....new carburator...exhaust etc etc.

its been like a month...whats going on with your 581? I am awaiting your response before I send my whole motor out to Mickey to have it modded fully.

hey mike, well im doing the 581 kit when i pull my motor to replace my frame, and gusset it / powder coat it.

the price is 1500$ with all the do dads. boreing cases ect.

300$ is prolly just the piston, and cylinder price- not the additional 150$ for the nikisil coating.

actually I haven't sent out the parts yet..I'm temporarly broke.....i think I'm gonna have him do everything, coat the sleeve, bore it out, bore the cases, and port and polish the heads (if he does that) I haven't even called to get a price yet,, my boyfriend and I are lookin at houses like every night so we haven't touched the quad other than me cleaning in the parts washer...I'll keep you guys updated and i will give u the price too...

 

alright I just got off the phone...$350 to bore and coat the sleeve, $75 for the case, and $300 to port and polish the heads....so thats $725 for the work, totaling $1027 for the big bore kit...add $130 for the cam, and about $450 in the rod, bearings, gaskets...and then about 60 to balance the crank...and I'm sure I'm missing something...wow this thing better be awesome when I'm done...!!! o yeah...I'll eventually want a clutch kit and an exhaust...and also I need to rejet the carb...i'm gonna be sick...

 

whats the deal with your kit how did it work out for you??
