I'm adding an '03 z400 to the stable, for riding in rocky desert and mountains. Do I need to upgrade the skid plates, and if so, with what? Thanks in advance.

 

Yes you do. I just rode in Nevada desert and boy without plates you'll get eaten up. Try ebay, there's full sets of underside protection you can get pretty reasonable. Make sure you get the .250" swingarm skid some of them are only .190".

 

thats the firtst thing i did when i got my new Z, was get all new skids. the stock ones are plastic! Junk!

I bought an AC swingarm skid, the rest (chassis, A-arms) I had made by a buddy. He made them at work out of .125" 7075- T6. They have worked great so far. Hit lots of stuff with no problems.

 

I have DG Baja's on both of mine and they work great.
