Yes, you can swap them out I know a '86 lt250 hub will fit on a '03 LT 160, which is 4 lugs. I think they have 27 spines(If, I remember correctly)

If you're interested in Swapping parts, let me know, I just bought some rims for my LT, and they're 5.... some one swapped in the older rear into it...it's 4. I'll trade you straight across for your 5 lug stuff....i have a 88LT250R (parts machine) and a 89.

mine is an 85, and Banshee hubs fit the same splines, I made a .25" spacer (the Banshee hubs are thinner) and they bolt right on the axle. Then I can trade wheels with all my friends that have Banshees. (We dune ride a lot) Plus I can buy used wheels and tires for CHEAP.

yup if you change your axle look at all the options you are going to have for tire sizes and rim sizes!!

No need to change the whole axle. So many Suzuki parts are interchangeable. I actually bought an extra pair of LT250R 5 lug hubs for my LT230S so all the machines I have use the same bolt pattern. Sure makes the tire situation more flexible.
Also, as a side note, durablue makes rear hubs for Suzuki 250R, 250S, and 230S with the 4x100mm Honda bolt pattern.

Yeah, I actually did some recent research on this. Very confusing stuff, but this should be right..........
85-86 4 Lug 24 Spline
87 5 Lug 24 Spline
88 5 Lug 24 or 26 Spline (Suzuki apparently used their remaining 24 spline axles before switching to 26 part way through 88)
89-92 5 Lug 26 Spline
