I have a 99 KQ. I am looking for ways to increase my performance. I ride alot of trails in the Sierra Nevada mountains hunting and fishing. The gearing keeps me going on the difficult trails no problem but would like more kick on the open ones (sound familiar....?) What are some modifications I could make (starting with least expensive and working my way up...) that I could do to enhance the way she runs.

I have installed a K&N filter for a little more air flow but didn't really notice a whole lot of difference (didn't think I would anyways). Looking forward to any info or words of wisdom you can reply.

Thanks!

Well, the first thing I would do is change the size of the front sprocket. Just get one with one(or maybe more) tooth extra. That's what I did to my quad, and it's great!
After that you could try drilling holes in the airbox-lid or take it off entirely. Just be sure you have a descent filter(K&N with outerwears) still, I wouldn't recommend doing this when you drive through mudd a lot....
If you still want more power than an aftermarket pipe could be the solution.(keep in mind, these are louder than stock and often need rejetting).
Well, after that I think you have to start doing engine mods, like overbore, high compression piston, cams etc, but I don't really know anything about that so maybe somebody else can help you if you want to go this far.

A king Quad doesn't have a chain. It has a driveshaft.Get a DG pipe. How do you expect an improvement with the filter if you can't get the air out faster.
