Default King Quad/ATV Television question

On a recent episode of ATV Television, they were testing radial tires on a KQ, a Brute Force, and a Grizzly. On one segment, they were climbing a steep snow covered path that pretty much required keeping the throttle pegged to get up it. The Brute Force made it no problem. The KQ sounded a little strange when it went up though. It sounded like the motor was cutting out...like it was bouncing off of the rev limiter. I was wondering if the KQ actually sounds like that, or if it was just the sound on the tape. Anyone catch that episode? T.I.A.

I think they had it in diff lock, and were failing to press the override button. My guess is that they had forgoten and left it in diff lock. It hits the rev limiter in lock, they would have been fine either just in low or with the override pushed in!

Monzookie, what size tires are you running? I am going to get a KQ (I think) and I have already ordered a set of 26 Mudhooks extreme for my AC, will it hurt the power or handling much? Thanks

Default King Quad/ATV Television question

I run 26 inch 589's..they are heavy. I run them to ease my mind on the issue of puntures and flats... 589's are nearly bullet proof. I would say you loose some with the bigger tires, but it is a trade off to getting a tire that will cut through mud and snow. I've been happy with the performance even with the bigger tires. I can still get a wheelie in low with a tug on the bars. My freind put a clutch kit in...and it really increased the quads power on the low end...and he runs 26 inch mudlites (he has had several flats already however). He feels the quad is stronger then stock with the clutch kit..even with the bigger tires.

I would think you would not be too dissapointed...

check out the new Mudlite radials.... They might be a little better for you. itp xtr tires. You can get these tires in 12's.....you dont need to buy 14 rims with these. Plus they are radials...

Thanks articcop If you want to see a few more photo's of "God's country" you can check out my webshots atv page...

If money were no object to me right now, and I was buying 26 inch tires, new for the KQ. I would look at the highlifter mst's. Looks like they might be pretty nice. They are 3lbs lighter per tire then my 589's but still have decent side lugs and 6 ply rating. And early reveiws say they pull as well as 589's in mud and are twice the tire in snow and ice...and that they ride a little smoother! It also appears they have better side lugs, which helps if you ride in wet/muddy rutted out trails...
I would look at the mudlites, but like I said...they seem a little "soft" or thin skinned for me. Somehow my freind gets flats in the same areas I don't. With the old stock tires on my 500ac, I had like 8 plugs in one tire, 4 in another and two or three in the other two tires. This was on tires filled with slime to keep the little holes covered. We have catus, sharp rocks, branches, and even glass bottles in the canal we ride in.... and tires have to hold up for me ...it's more important then weight.

If I were riding a lot of groomed trails, and such, I sure would rather have the weight of the mudlights!
