Default 250 cc engine compatability

Hi.
I wonder does anyone know if the internal parts of a 2WD engine will fit in a 4WD engine case? I have an LT 4WD that the cylinder and crank are pooched. The 4wd engine has the extra driveshaft, but if the internal parts are the same fir the engine, i could swap them over right?

It would help if you told us the year of the bike. Please put your bike and year in your sig. From the same or maybe even adjacent years they should be interchangeable for the most part. Does your bike use a transfer case or is the front driveshaft coming directly out of the motor?

sorry about that.
It is a 1987 LT4WD. I have searched around and see they continued the machine into the early 90s, but around here if someone has one of these they don't want to part with it. I noticed that a 1992 LT250 appears to be the same type of engine, minus the front driveshaft and diff. It may be easier to find a machine like this around since people are getting rid of their 2wd machines. I would think that the crank, head, clutch etc would be the same just for ease of production, but iI am not certain.
