help! z400 header/jetting
#11
I Dont want to be a pain but, I know why jetting is done, and I know a bit about carbs, but I get intimidated when I look at mine, I got an 05 also and it looks as complicated as hell. What were yo talking about with the impact wrench and everything?

Basically it does look intimidating at first, but it really isnt bad. There is a great site that has pictures and a really good technical info on how to do it, backwards it is "moc.lartnec004z" basically the name of the bike followed by central- but it wont let you post that site on here, which I think is ridiculous because it has some really good information on the jetting, and that is what we are all here for, to get some information. Basically when you get the carb out, which i found it easiest (and this is just my way) was to remove the seat, some of the plastics, gas tank, and just unscrew enough to slide it up and out. There are still a lot of wires connected, but for the first time I found it easiest to just pull it out to get a good look at it. As for the impact wrench, the screws on the bottom of the bowl are so tight from the pressure and heat of the engine, and they are brass, they are easy to strip. So spending 12 bucks at the local Home Depot and getting a small impact wrench and a couple stainless steel hex screws to replace those brass ones is a great deal (that weebsite goes into this all much deeper) The first few times doing it takes some time, but I can change it within 20 minutes now. The big test is being able to jet it right, and there is another long chat on that site for this. It really isnt a big deal, let me know how it goes or any other questions.
