Default New, New, New!

I guy's i'm new to this site, i'm new to the ATV world, and i just bought a new Kingquad. Just a quick question, and this has probably been beat to death already, oil's... I work for Imperial Oil and i know a fair amount lubricants, according to my manual it say's to run 10/40 summer, and 5/30 winter. Now once the quad get's broken in and everything seated nicely, what do you guy's think of running a Mobil Delvac 1 5/40 fully syn year round instead of switching back and forth? I use it year round in my pick-up truck ( gas) and i think it's a superior engine oil. I know it would be a good summer oil, but even though it's a full syn do you think that it might be to heavy for winter?

Now I may sound like a complete idiot by saying this as I'm not sure exactly how the KQ tranny setup is. Doesn't the KQ tranny still have the oil bathed clutches like the rest of the bikes, or is the clutching all done at the belt? If it still uses the oil bathed clutches then that Mobil is probably too "slick" (sorry don't know the technical term for it) for the clutches to grab properly. I was told by more than one source that your standard synthetic automotive oil is not a good idea. Now if I'm wrong, see above statement and correct me please.

I believe you're correct. I was told not to use the synthetic because of the clutch. I believe its a wet clutch system.

Forgot to mention, there are several synthetics that are wet clutch compatible. Amsoil being one of them.

MeYHymN is correct, according to the factory mech's. Full syn. (unless wet clutch compat.) is a no no. You could void your warranty by using it, not to mention possible damage. That said, I run Mobil 1 in my truck......

Hey guy's, thanks for all the replies. The Mobil Delvac 1 5/40 is more along the lines of a diesel engine oil, but can be used in gasoline engine's as well, especially ATV's and bikes, because of high operating temp's. So there for it don't have the same additives as say Mobil 1 5/30 or 10/30 with supersyn and anti-wear additives. I think anything in a diesel syn oil would be good for summer, but i'd be a little concerned about winter, someone correct me if i'm wrong. Even a full syn Esso product like XD3 0/40 might be a good all year round engine oil. Anymore thought's? Do many guy's run block heater's in their Quad's? Thanks again.

I Just switched to this Amsoil and plan on running it all year round. Click here for link AMSoil 10-w40 Motorcycle oil
I was running Amsoil's 0-40 in the winter and had no problems but in the summer the 0-40 is to thin.
AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils contain no friction modifiers, making them ideal for motorcycle and ATV engines.
