During a recent hunting trip I noticed my exhaust pipe on my 93 KQ was glowing red after the return trip back to camp. This ride involved riding with the throttle wide open for about a half hour. The spark plug was also white indicating a lean fuel mixture. There was also a slight oil leak around the head which might be attributed to the overheated valves. Has anyone else seen this problem. I didn't see anything on tech connection.

I encountered this on my 87 4x4 Suzuki Quad Runner. It was dark outside and I was running some very high RPMs.Make sure you are not spark knocking upon acceleration when this occurs.Your actually running the quad to hot.Do you have a oil cooler on your model?====Bill

Yes Bill I have an oil cooler and it was clean and able to properly cool the oil. I'm not familiar with the term "spark knocking" though.

My friend and I just got 2001 500 QuadRunner's and went for our first night ride. Wow, if we were running medium to fast speeds the darn pipe coming out of the head was glowing orange. I mean you could light a cigarette on these things. But, they both did it and both have less than 75 miles, so I guess it's normal. I'd like to hear from some other people to see if their bikes are the same.

Mine does the same thing, (2000 LT500) and there is nothing wrong with that, they just get super hot thats all, although I would check into the lean plug, that doesn't sound good at all.
