Default UNI filter dirty...

OK so I go riding this weekend and the sand was pretty bad. The filter got so filled with sand that the bike would not even start. I am wondering what I can do about this next time. I know its a good thing that the sand was stopped by the filter but I am wondering um well what I can do for next time. I have the snorkel removed but ummm yeah....

Put a K&N Outerwear cover over it, or a Filter Skin, they will catch a lot of the fine stuff, if you run mostly sand, the K&N is best, since it is dry, most of the sand will fall off when not running, leaving the filter a lot cleaner at the end of the day.

Low budget solutioon is to cover the filter with a section of "nylons" If you get the foot section of a old pair of nylons and cover the filter with it it will keep the sand out of the filter. I seal the airboxes and cover the opening with a section of nylon for my sand rides. I just cant stand the thought of all that sand in the filter.

I run an EHS Racing airbox lid, which has an Outerwears over the opening. The Outerwears gets the course stuff, and the filter only has to handle the littler stuff.

Get another filter or two, and take it along next time so you can change it out for a fresh one.
