Gearing...

OK so stock gearing is 13/40 correct? I am thinking about buying a couple new spockets and a new chain so I am wondering what kind of difference would I see with the 13/41 or 13/42? I am thinking about going that route for trails/hill climbs. Would that be too much or would that still give me a little top end? Any thoughts would help me out a great deal. Thanks!

You notice more of a difference changing the front gear. Going from 14/40 to say 14/42 will give you only a slight low-end increase, and only a slight loss of top-end. Dropping the front to a 13 will be more noticed more, but it still won't be radical.
Two teeth up front and you will really see a bigger difference. I think they say 3 rear teeth equals one front tooth, but I'm not sure if I'm accurate with that one. It wasn't exactly an engineer who told me that.
