Hey I have a 04 Z400 with a White brothers E series slip-on. And my friend has a 200 400EX with a Pro Circuit T-4 Slip-on. he just got new piston rings and new valve stems. My Z needs the vavles adjusted because it ticks really really loud. And I have ALOT of hours on my Z. And he beats me by at least 3 or 4 quad lengths. I want a full system Curtis Sparks pipe cuz i don't care for WB. And im getting my valves all renewed and adjusted. Will this help? Is the reason im getting beat because my vavles and and pipe are no good?

 

well how much do you weight compared to him?got your throttle stop screw out all the way out?if you have alot of hr on your z you might need a rebuild too.do a compression check and see .

 

he weights probally 5lbs less then me...i took my throttle stop screw out completly. It does have a lot of hours on it. this winter im hoping to do a rebuild like he did. But it doens't matter. I could care less if he bats me a dag..I smoke him on a track and thats what we are startig is racing so..It does't matter I was just confused.

 

Try trading quads, then race. It might be the rider. Mod for mod the Z should have no trouble pulling an ex. Did he go with a high comp piston?

Ticking noise- Check your timing chain tensioner, make sure theres adjustment left. Its pretty common for the chain to stretch out on the Z.

If your having your valveclearances checked you might want to upgrade cams. Hotcams give a good power gain for the price. ~$240 for both from woodward specialties.

 

something is wrong i have never got beat by a ex even when i was stock and they had mods a would check your timing chan thats whats ticking i guarentee..... do the cams make a big difference cause i want to get them

We tore his whole engine apart so if it came to tearing a 400ex motor a part I know how to do it. But my engine is so much more complicated then his. How do I adjust the tensionor. his was right on the side of his cylinder. I treid that with mine and it doesn't adjust at all. i've heard forma guy who owns a small engine repair shop and he said it was my timing chaine but thinks the chain is expensive. So How do i check it?

 

if he's beating you in a drag what sproket is he running?try at 13t spocket on your z then you should always get the jump on him in a drag race

 

The cams will definitely help you get to the rev limiter faster........................lol.

 

I can beat him off start right now. When we raced. We was going along in 4th gear not pinned. And he came up past me in 5th and I hit the gas after he was past me. And he stayed ahead of me the whole way for like 500feet about 3 quads lenghts. If it was from dead stop I can take him because I shift and accel a lot better then him.(not to sound cocky) He also has cut fenders if it helps at all. I don't yet.
