Default Just got a LT230E carb, battery, valves questions?

I just picked up an 87 Lt230E quadrunner and it runs but not all that well. It runs okay at lower rpms but sucks at higher rpms. It has a 27 mm Keihen carb that is kind of rigged up, it so I'm looking to replace that with a performance upgrade. What size would be good, 28, 32?

Also I don't have a manual yet, but I think the valves need adjusting can anyone explain this, I'm pretty good at working on things so it shouldn't be too hard.

Also it has the automatic clutch is there some kind of external adjustment on it because mine comes in all at once.

Lastly it's missing the battery, of course there is the positive and negative, but there is a smaller wire does anyone know where that goes.

Oh and if anyone reading this has a thumb throttle they would like to part with let me know cause this one has a twist and I don't like twist throttles. Thanks.

You don't want to go too big on the carb without increasing some internals like the cam. A good cheap mod is a stock cam for a 230 quadsport, and a carb also for a quadsport. The cam profile on the sport is a bit racier, and the carb is 1 mm larger. The only thing is the choke lever for a sport carb is on the carb itself instead of on the handlebars. Not sure what your setup is anyway since you've got a Keihen on it.

When you get the manual, it will tell you how to adjust the auto clutch. I remember it's very easy to do, but I don't remember all the details. I think you have to take off a small cover on the clutch side, but you don't have to open up the motor.

I probably have an extra stock thumb throttle I could part with. (I've got 2 230E parts bikes and a quadsport parts bike also.) I also just sold an extra 230E manual to another guy. I might have another extra one if you're interested. (Not 100% - I'll have to check.) I'm actually headed to Owensboro KY this coming weekend if you're near there and would like to meet me. Otherwise, I could just ship it to you.

Send me a PM if you're interested.
