Default 230S Help

Hey guys I just got done fitting a quadracer swingarm into my 86 230S....must say looks much better. I will try to get some photos up soon...really looks good with the new black plastics and seat cover and polished wheels. But I went out riding today and I feel the need for more power.....and electric start. I'm really getting tired of the kick starter thing!!!! I was thinking of swapping in a 300ex engine in place of the 230....the 300 is close in size to the 230 so i think it should fit without too much modifcation. I was at first thinking of a warrior engine but those look pretty big. And I know some of you will say just buy a new one...but anyone can just buy a new one...hell i get more looks and comments on the trails with my older fixed up bike than my buddies brand new bike. Plus i like the older bikes better....so what do you guys think. 300Ex motor swap or do a big bore and cam on the 230 with a electric start kit? I already have a exhaust system and high compression piston and aftermarket carb on the 230...stock gear ratios with 20" tires on the back. Thanks

get the head ported by someone familiar with the 230 head. it was a generic head used on all the 230 4 stroke motors. it can be tuned but its not cheap. get a webcam stage 1 cam and a 32mm Mikuni carb and i'll see ya at the starting line!
seriously tho, if you want to make it a 400 killer it'll take a couple g's when you add on new suspension along w/ the motorwork. and still cheaper than a stock 300ex
I'm building mine for the same "wow, cool quad" effect. not to mention whuppin' bigger, newer quads is good for a laff or 2

IMO, I wouldn't swap in the 300EX motor. If your going to go through the trouble to do an engine swap, pick something with more grunt. Otherwise, get the Goki Electric start kit and build the 230. There isn't a whole lot of performance difference between a 230 sport and a 300EX.

I agree w Yagerzzz. the motor can be built to humiliate a lotta bikes. especially if yer running an extended swingarm. how's the 'racer arm working? was there much modification or did it just bolt up?

Default 230S Help

the racer swingarm works like a charm...yagerzzz was right the sport axle is a bolt in for the racer carrier so i just reused the sport axle for now with all the brackets and hubs. Had to spread the frame a smidge with a bottle jack to get it to fit but like i said just a smudge. Using the stock sport shock with a shackle setup i made and all that works great. So it's not a full floater i guess.... but I'm not into flying above the trees either! made the bike a hell of alot more stable in turns and man does that thing power slide now.....it's a blast.....every corner now i feel the need to slide around...even on pavement i can get it to slide in 2nd gear. I'm gonna try to get some pics this weekend after i get it cleaned up.....just gotta figure out how to post pics here. so what would you guys recommend? maybe a 2mm oversize piston and a webcam and let it rip? i've already got a perf carb....and exhaust sort of...cobra sucks! gonna try to modify a slip on system to fit my bike. the cobra system i got now is way too loud sounds like crap! lol. thanks guys.
