Default King Quad reverse problem - 2005 vs. 2006

VinceR,
I am not home now to check, but does your frame vin# match your engine vin?

The frame vin is written vertical in front of the front left shock, and is visible from near the front tire.

The last 9 of mine is 152117042.

Mine don't match but are within a couple hundred of each other. They are both in the 120xxx range.

Mine don't match either, but the last 6 engine numbers are 43 digits higher than my frame vin #.

Default King Quad reverse problem - 2005 vs. 2006

I was in my local Suzuki-Yamaha dealer today and saw that his red King Quad had been sold. He still had 2 green's. I asked the Service Manager (who was working the floor), and he said they just sold the red, but he had another in a crate in back. I've been interested in getting a KQ, but have been waiting to see what/if Honda will do to their Rincon. I asked him, out of curiosity, what the VIN # was on the crated red KQ. He checked it and it was much lower than the "fixed" number (52115956). I then told him I wasn't interested in any having
a VIN number less than that. He said; "Oh, the reverse problem is fixed by the new ECM, and they won't let us sell them w/o the fix, and
this one has the fix". He knew nothing of the reverse bearing issue, only the ECM. Bottom line; be sure you check that VIN no matter what the dealer's salesman, Service Manager, Parts Manager, etc. claim. He also knew nothing of the 5 year warranty. Just thought some of you may need to be doubly warned.

I just bought a new '05 KQ yesterday, and I asked my dealer which VIN to look at regarding the reverse issue. He said they go by the VIN on the frame, and the motor # doesn't usually match the frame VIN#. Obviously there are conflicting reports out there regarding which VIN is the one to look at, so my advice if you're buying an '05 KQ is to be sure BOTH VINs are above the 115956 cut-off.

By the way, I just love my new King! It has a great ride, nice handling, and that 700 EFI really purrs.
