What brand/weight of oil do you use in your ATV?

I have heard car oil is fine EXCEPT don't use 10-30 because it has an additive that is bad in the bike (maybe something the clutch doesn't like).
A friend of mine knows a chemist that works for an oil company and gets the info right from him. I always used regular car oil 10-40 or 20-50 and it worked fine, then I started buying nice new 4 wheelers and through fear bought the expensive ATV oil, works the same. Think I'll go back to the car stuff.

Thanks, yeah, I need to get a filter on them.
Both atvs have about 150 miles on them... would you consider them broken in by now? Now I'm kinda worried i put oil in them that I shouldn't have. I made sure it met the API specs the manual specified, but I didn't see if it said it was "energy conserving" on the bottle. If i didn't hate the local Suzuki dealer so much, I'd stop in there and pick up a few quarts of the suzuki oil. There's a Kawi dealer across the highway... could I get the right stuff from them?
I changed the oil at about 110miles, so I've only been running them for two outings, (~40) miles. I should probalby just drain the oil and suck it and get the suzuki stuff.
I ordered a Suzuki service manual 187rideeasy.com ($39) that I plan to use in the future. I think the valves will need to be adjusted soon.

ShadyRascal- Big mistake using car oil! See this article for the reasons.----> http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm <-----
Your YFZ is a screamer, and no machine is going to be harder on its oil than the YFZ and TRX 450s. You need to use the finest oil money can buy, if you want to insure the longevity of your engine! Think about it. Cars redline at what is idle for a 450. Your motor is just into the meat of the powerband at 8,000 rpm. That rpm would destroy most cars.
Ironically, the one motor where you could use "car oil" is the Honda 450R. In this motor, Honda seperates the engine oil from the transmisson oil (God bless Honda!). So, you don't have to worry about a slipping cluthch if you run a super slick JASO MB oil in the engine, but you do need to run a JASO MA oil in the transmission (my choice is Maxima MTL in the trans.). If I were to run a "car oil" in my R, it would be Redline, the same stuff I run in my trucks. http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/redtech1.htm
