Default King Quad vs Kodiak 450

Still new to the forum and soaking up as much info as I can. I have a choice between the 2005 Kodiak 450 and a 2005 King Quad 700. I can get the Kodiak for $6,400 out the door. The King Quad is $6,800 out the door. Which would you guys recommend. I like the size of the Kodiak, but the King Quad with the fuel injection and 700cc motor is kind of hard to pass up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will be using it for helping out around the house with horses and keeping up with my buddies who have a couple of raptors and a honda motorcycle. Pro and Cons....

Thanks Skippy

Actually,
this is a no brainer for me..For 400 bucks more, the KQ has tons more power from every range,EFI,steers easier, and rides better..

Hands down, the KQ would be my choice for the extra 400 bucks.

I'm new too but I would go KQ as long as it was an '05 with a serial # that has the last 8 digits above 52115956 so that you don't get a fealer trying to sell you an '05 with a reverse problem. Do a search on here and you will see PLENTY mentioned about it...it just needs to be above that # and you are fine!

Thanks for the info, the only thing I was thinking about was the size of the King Quad when trying to ride on the smaller trails.
I appreciate the quick response. Thanks again Skippy

Skippy,
If you could you should ride both of them. But if you did ride both of them you would be surprised how refined and fabulous the King Quad is. Don't be concerned about the bigger engine, you will grow to appreciate it. Go with the King, I highly recommend it.

I'm sure if you posted this on the Yamaha side you would get a lot of go with the Kodiak answers but on this thread I am pretty sure you will get mostly the King Quad answer, and I am among them. I have riden both. I am pretty tall and I did not fit on the Kodiak. My feet kept hitting the front bumper from the floorboards. I have a friend that had a Kodiak and he finally traded it off for a Grizzly because he felt as I do... it is not layed out well and was uncomfortable.

Most trails are built to accept an ATV up to 52" wide (I think it is this wide anyway). The KQ has room to spare with this figure. I don't think you will be hampered with the size of the KQ and for the few $ more you are getting SO MUCH MORE!!! I am waiting for the 06s to hit the market before buying mine. I have done a ton of research and have ridden many different ATVs to see what worked for me and the KQ has it all. I own three Suzukis currently and have owned four others in my riding life. I have owned a Yamaha Big Bear, which sucked by the way and currently own a Honda Rubicon. It is a great bike but does not beat out my Vinsons in my opinion. I have had great success with Suzuki and they have treated my right when I have had problems.

What ever you choose good luck, have fun and ride safe!

Maybe if you were comparing the Grizzly to KQ, it would be closer, but Kodiak vs KQ, there is only one answer. KQ all the way. I've driven both the griz and KQ. KQ is faster, more agile and . . . did I mention faster. Also easier on gas, better cold weather starting, and not cold blooded. But do make sure you follow the serial number advice mentioned in the earlier response ( last 8 digits above 52115956 ). They switched to a needle bearing to solve the reverse problem after that s/n. Other than that goof up, it's a very strong machine!!

I'd go with the king quad. I bought my wife an 05 kodiak 450 and it is a great bike. But it just doesn't compare with my king. Both have a great smooth ride but when it comes to power theres no comparison. One thing that I have noticed that the kodiak favors better at is on some of the narrow trails. My wife has no problems going between trees and other tight spots to where I have to really watch myself sometimes.

i to say the king quad. ive never ridden one but 400 dollars for 250 more cc thats an easy choice. my brother n law has an 03 kodiac 450 with 1500 trouble free miles but its not got a whole lot of power. ive raced him with my vinson and its not even close. if you want a smaller atv the vinson would be a good choice. i give 6100 for mine and its full of power, light, and fun to ride. i also have 210 trouble free miles on my vinson and i love it. good luck with your choice.

Kodiak or KQ hmmmm....That's like asking should I get a Caviler or a Corvette. Get the KQ!!!! IMO any 4x4 Utility Quad less than a 500cc is underpowered.
