best protection for new KFX?
I'm picking up a new KFX400 on Sat.
The first thing I want to do to is get some real protection underside.
I see the following brands:
DG
PRO Aluminum
AC
Who's got the best product of the three above?
Any other reasonably priced manufacturers I should know of?
I plan on getting the chassis skid plate and the a-arm guards first, since there is a bumper, grab bar, and at least a plastic swingarm plate on it.
Also, I guess nerf bars are primarily to keep your feet from falling off the pegs and hitting the ground?
I'll be riding PA trails - rocks, roots, hills.
Thanks,
Rick

I would get a different swing arm skid plate first if I were you. Those plastic ones offer hardly no protection. If you read any of the articles in dirtwheels, etc... in the past they all said they ripped off the plastic swing arm skidplate without much trouble. That was the first thing I got and it's saved me from damage quite a few times. I think pro alumunium is pretty good and also one of the cheapest I believe.

I got Armadillo swingarm guards for both my z400 and my Raptor for $80 each at Rocky Mountain ATV The Armadillo is the most popular according to them and I think the best bang for the buck. They are 1/4 inch thick, some of the more popular brands are more expensive and not as thick.

Ive had my Z for awhile with no problems on the underside....Apart from the rear plastic swingarm guard being scrapped and cracked etc it still protects from the rocks. Besides unless your riding over constantly big rocks and cant maneuver and avoid the larger ones then go for it. I would get AC racing's rear suspension link guard as Ive replaced mine as its been cracked half off a couple times. Also by going with an aluminum skid your sacrificing more ground clearance and are more likely to get hung up.

I like AC Racing's stuff. I had a full chassis skid and swingarm skid on my sport quad before I sold it for a new King Quad. I rode the narliest stuff a 2wd could take--just get all the skids at once, you need them all if you do similar riding.
I never got a-arm skids and regretted it, I was doing a jump just big enough to bottom the suspension (300EX) and one arm landed directly on a rock about the size of a football--I got a nice sized dent to remember it by. Also I riode over small stumps that got caught in the "A" of the arm.
