King Quad owners: Reverse limiter
#1
I have found that my KQ 700 misses like crazy in reverse if I apply any more throttle than just off idle. The dealer's mechanic looked at it and concluded that this is just the reverse limiter, put in so that people don't kill themselves going too fast in reverse. He changed out the ECM with an original and it did the same, so that's where he comes up with this theory.
There is no other KQ to compare!
When the override button is pressed the machine takes off backwards alright, but without it pressed the machine starts missing like crazy even trying to back up a small incline. That can't be right.
I'm not buying it that that's a reverse limiter. A reverse limiter to my mind would limit the throttle the bike would get in reverse, not make the machine run like a bag of hammers. Even if I put the brakes on hard at a standstill so the quad doesn't move, and press high throttle in reverse, it goes into it's misfiring and stumbling business. Forward operation is just fine.
I can't see Suzuki making a limiter that sounds so inelegant as that, but there is no other KQ 700 around here for me to compare mine against.
So King Quad owners, does your machine do this?

I think mine does the same thing, doesn't really seem like a big deal to me because I never go over 5mph in reverse. I guess that's the only way to limit the amount of power in reverse, just push the override button when you need a more power in reverse and you'll be fine.

Yeah that's the limiter. My z does the same thing. Even with the clutch in, if it's in reverse and I rev it, the limiter cuts in when the throttle is barely pressed. Wish mine had an over-ride though.
