Default Electrical issue

Please help As I ride my 2003 eiger the battery becomes weak. What could it be ? Ive heard it could be the regulator rectifier. Could this be true ? Maybe i have a wire shorting something out. Any help would be appreciated

first have your battery tested it could just be going bad and wont hold a good charge. then I would worry about the rectifier

If you have a voltmeter, you can try checking a few things.
With the key off, hook up the voltmeter accross the battery. It should be 12.3 xolts dc or higher. Leave the voltmeter hooked up, and start the motor. With it idleing, ideal would be higher than the first reading, but may not be. Turn on the lights and see where it goes from there. Now slowly rev the motor, until it gets to about 4000rpm, it should get much higher than the first reading, but be under 15. volts. If the voltage goes up, while revving, and its higher than the first reading...the rectifier/regualto is probably good.
Does the machine have any accesories? Hand warmers, extra lights, winch?
Is the electrical system totally stock?
Are the terminals at the battery clean and shiney? or crusty and dull looking?

Thanks Honda buster I will try what you said .It would be great to figure this out rather than taking it to a shop.Every shop I call tells me it will be 3 weeksbefore they can look at it.
