Default King Quad 300?

So what's the skinny on these things? On paper they seem to be set up pretty good.
I am looking to get another quad next month and these are right in my price range.
I have a 2005 Eiger right now but want to get something for deep mudding and let my girl ride the Eiger.
I am also looking into older Polaris Xplorers because they can take lots of lift, you can change the gearing, and a 400 2-stroke is a hell of a motor for a quad.
So if you have any experiance with older king quads let me know please.
Thanks
Keith

Default King Quad 300?

Had one for 10 years.
Decent handling even compared with new stuff.
Not much power. Great for crawling around quietly, not so good at keeping up with the pack up hills.
No end of gears. pull anything you can hook up to. has enough reduction to tow a locomotive.
low low center of gravity. despite nearly 8 inch ground clearance has the stability of a manhole cover.
reliable as a tank. No, tanks break down.
great on gas. 280 cc understressed, it goes all day on a tankful (almost)
has a locking front diff. Take out the slide pin and it locks in all ranges.
Has a speedometer, trip milage. big racks
did I say not much power?
Bought mine in '95 for $7000 CDN
Sold in 2005, $3500 CDN

Just to add to Glenlivet's description I should mantion that the KQ 300 doesn't have much power.

I had one for several years and then went with an Eiger. For basic trail riding, you will be disappointed in the KQ if you are used to the Eiger - they are night and day. handling onthe KQ is way down as compared to the Eiger but the old KQ300 is a champ as low speed slogging through stuff.

I had two of them, wish I still had the last one! I have a new King Quad, and yes its bigger and badder, but for just plain riding and fun,you can't kill one of the old boogers. The only problem I found was if you put it in four lock,it would dig its self down to the frame. Not much ground clearence.THe U.S NAvy used them for beach duty back in the ninties.I wish Suzuki would have taken that old bike and just made it bigger, I would have been much happier.

I cant believe you havent heard of the best quad ever made...!!.....VERY SLOW..but extremely durable and pulling power at low speeds to equal a big tractor. They seem outdated if you are comparing to any recent quad, but if you value durability and PURE UTILITY, nothing has been able to beat it. I havent been able to force myself to get rid of mine.....LOYALTY to these machines is unmatched. IF suzuki would have JUST made a more powerful version of the OLD king quad, it would have been the best utility of all time..!! Another 100-150CC's would have made this quad unreal.

Anyone know what the King Quad 300's weigh? Are they as heavy as the King Quad 700?

Actually the KQ 300 weighs more than the 700. Old KQ is listed at 640 lbs. dry.

Actually the stated dry weight of my original '95 KQ is 604 lbs. (606 for this '99)
'99 King Quad
, spitting distance to the new KQ's 602 claimed dry weight.
'05 King Quad
Mind you the new one is liquid cooled and has a bigger fuel capacity so it probably noses out the old one in riding trim, though it's splitting hairs...
