Default Reeds for a LT250R

I have decided to go with a new Keihin 35mm PWK carb, and rejet it to my LT. Now i dont know what Reeds are? Should i pick a set of them up? What would you guys do?

I have decided that my stock carb is shot, The screw setting are way off factory and if you move them it just gets worse. The LT fouls plugs fast and will not idle long and is a little weak on the bottom end if i dont run it hard to keep it cleared out.

So is a new Keihin, jetted, and reeds a good upgrade/Fix?

Reeds are plastic, or a similar type material, flaps that regulate the amount of fuel and air mixture allowed into the cylinder. The reed cage on an Lt is inbetween the carb and cylinder (there is the carb., then a rubber boot, then the outer flange of the reed cage with the rest inside the jug) and the reeds attached to the cage. When the piston is on the intake (downward) stroke the reeds allow fuel and air to be pulled into the cylinder, and on the compresion (upward) stroke they close off keeping the air and fuel in the cylinder. You can get either the whole cage and reeds or just the reeds.

I did something very similar to what you are talking about on my old LT. I'm pretty sure the Keihin I used was a 36mm though. Then I added the V-Force Delta 2 reeds and cage. At this point jetting is a must. If you don't get the jetting right on the new carb you will have the same problems with plug fouling or running to lean. Mine was a pain, but once I finally got it right the thing would scream.

Hope that helps.

I went with a 38mm Keihin on my 87, it really made it scream on the top end. Be careful when jetting since the stock mikuni and the Keihin use a different jet numbering schema. As far as reeds go if you want to save money buy your reed on ebay and look for them for a 89-96 kx250. They are exactly the same as the 87 lt250r, part number and all. I ended up getting a brand new set for $14 shipped.

BTW if you decide to sell your stock carb let me know.
