RM 125 or Z 400

You said it! Pingers are only aggrivating if you don't know how to ride them...EXACTLY! The kid obviously has no riding experience and you want to go throw him on a 2 stroke 125? I think you may have forgotten what it's like not to know how to ride or what to do when you're busted. No one is arguing that a pinger is more expensive to work on, simply they require more. Put your kid on whatever you want but apparently his Dad isn't a "Pro Rider" like yourself and isn't going to be able to rebulid the top end in 37 seconds flat like some poeple....
Not hating on Pingers---I had a CR250, and HAVE a Blaster. "I love the smell of burning oil in the morning...it's the smell...of victory" Just keep in mind he's a KID that needs something smooth and easy to start off with. Most of us never turn out ot be "Class A Racers"

We are debating about two different things here. Im arguing that a thumper is more expensive and more frequent maintnance. Which it is. 250f's need oil changes every 2-4 ride depending on how hard you ride it, need to check the vavles every 10-15 hours whether you ride hard or easy, and need a new piston every year if you ride a lot. 2-smokes replace the top end once a year and change the gear oil a few times a year if you ride a lot.
As for a beginner on a 125. Heck yeah! Like any experience rider will tell ya, a 250f will make you lazy, trail or track. A 125 will teach you to clutch it, keep it in the power, and push it that much further. Not to mention they are the most "flickable" bike there is. Great learning tool. I wish I would have learned on one, I went straight from trail bike to 250. I think I would be better today if I had a 125 first.
And if he is to small of a kid to ride a 125, then he is to small to ride a 250f. Common sense! And try kicking a 250f over, Im 6'3 and it is still a b!tch.

So what EP is saying is go ahead and get a 4 stroke, so you wont have to mess with any maintaince? That will teach a new up and comer! It seems to me, that a 2-stroke may require more, but its cheaper, and easier to do. In turn this makes a better rider and also teachs the kid a little something about the sport he is about it enter.

I like dirt bikes but i think i'd buy a quad b fore buying a bike. Oh and ep, Y would the z be too much? I've riden a 250 and i got so bored on it I did everything i ould on it. Thats partly the reason i want a new 1. I wouldnt say i am the best rider out there but im not stupid and am mature.

OK whatever....I'm not trying to argue with anyone. I thought this was the "ATV Connection forum" not the "I'm Mr 2 stroke dirt bike guy and I'm mad cause theres not going to be any more 2 strokes after this year. "
Orangeguy---theres a BIIIG difference in a 250 and a 400. Unless you weigh 3 times as much as you should for your age I'd get a 300ex or warrior at most. I've been riding all my life---seen countless wrecks on the dirt (including myslef) and several on the street. People who just go out and buy the fastest thing they can get their hands on without really knowing how to ride get hurt. Think a quad won't hurt you? A friend of mine just bought a Banshee from a guy for a steal!---why, cause it flipped over on top of him and now he's paralized from the neck down....do what you want, but "maturity" counts nothing compared to experience.
Now for God's sake it's Friday night---so motox---get up out of your momma's kitchen and take your girl out (yes i looked at your profile and there's no way a 21 yr old cold have his own house AND all those toys---don't lie) Raptor legs: you need to check out Apocalypse Now, and Mr Dumbass: you need to try a little harder at sarcasm..."let's done teach the kid how he done can be a mechanic...EP you're so duuuumb...hey wait, i'm a Southerner...better watch it..
