Remember when motocross was all two strokes? Thumpers were for trails? That's what I'm saying raptorlegs. Get him on "daddy's XR" as motox put it.

Those 6-packs work pretty good.

That 230 would be perfect imo.

Maybe MWQ could help me with the history but:

I might be some what off on this but it used to be the big British four strokes that were doing the MX in the early sixties and then the European two strokes took over.

Yea but we weren't talking about trail bikes, it started out a 125 vs a 250f. And "daddy's XR" is a popular term around here for good old faithful 4-strokes of yesterday.

I agree a crf230 would be a great learner bike, or something simular to that model.

I'm not on crack and am not crazy i'm sure a rm65 or rm 85 would be enough power for me but i thought the 125 would be ideal for my size. I'm 5'11 150. I've riden a honda 85 before i couldnt even kick start it my leg was so squished. And i'm not going to get a z 400 i just used it to compare bikes and quads because it wasa a zuki site. I'll probably get a raptor 350 or blaster. 300ex's are ugly.

Just to set the record straight-- I never reccomended a CRF250. The whole time I think we all arguing about something we all agree on. Anyway, just so long as we're all on the same page...

I just read about this somewhere. I think it was thumpers until around the early 70's. Now with a 100% increase in cc's, and a few million dollars of Indy car technology. Thumpers are beating 2 strokes.

Im curious to see what will happen in a few years. A lot of average joe racers are going back to 2-strokes because of the cost, some are quiting all together. They have so much money in keeping them up, not to mention I don't think you are going to be able to sell a thumper race bike in a few years, the cost to fix them back up is almost what you paid for it.

Example, my buddy got a sweet deal on a yz250f for $2000. But he has put a grand in the engine alone and that is with him doing the labor. It needed piston, valves, etc. Even a new head, that was $400 of it alone! A used two-stroke might just need a piston and rings, at most a re-plated cylinder.

And I have been hearing a rumor that AMA might bump the "lites" class for 2-strokes from 125 to 150cc's. I hope this is true because I don't know if I can afford the upkeep on a 250f with my current responcibilities.

Id be willing to bet the 2-strokes will become poplar again in the racing world. Most of the market is the average joe, and the AMA is noticing a lot of guys throwing in the towel for financial reasons. Entry fees, food, and fuel is enough of a bill.
