Hard to shift gears on a z250??
#1
I have had my z250 for about 3 months now and I find it very difficult to shift gears. At first, it was difficult to shift from 1st to 2nd. For some reason, the quad has to slow down from first in order to shift to 2nd. I could never shift from 1st to 2nd in a smooth motion. It was always a struggle. Now most of the gears I want to shift to are having the same problem and by the time I do get the gears to shift from one to the other the quad has lost it's speed. I thought the break in period was going to help solve this problem, but it has not. Also, when I use the reverse gear, it difficult to get the gear to engage. Sometimes it will engage without any problems and other times I feel as if I have to stomp on the shifter to force it to work. Does anyone else have this problem with any of your quads? If so, what did you do to remedy this? Any suggestions would help. I hate to haul it back to the dealer and be without a quad for a while.

Interersting. Now, does this happen to most of the z250's or did I just happened to get the troublemaker version? You pointed out that this only happens when you wear shoes. Again interesting, I will try putting on my motocross boots and see how well it will work for me. By the way, any suggestions about the reverse gear not engaging sometime?

about the reverse gear. make sure you are holding the brake in a little. i sumtines have trouble gettin it into nuetral, i have to like shake it around and stuff.. i dont know anyone else w a 250 so i dunno bout it happening to all of em.

I did have that problem i agree with thorrider the type of shoes, boots, w/e does make a difference. And the reverse is kinda of weird sometimes it works good sometimes i will have to stomp but it doesnt bother me. It is hard to put into neutral sometimes what works all the time is if the bike isnt going into neutral after you clciked down more then 2 times just hit the gas a bit then down shift works all the time.

I dunno 'boout you guys, but I never use 1st gear, it is pretty much pointless. I start in 2nd and go from there and shift is easier in riding boots for sure. Hadn't had trouble with Reverse yet.

You should have NO problems shifting to and from any gear when the engine is running. Take it to the dealer and get the clutch adjusted, I've had 2 z250's and have experience with 3, they never had shifting problems.
If you still have any type of warranty go get it looked at.

thanks for the tips. Still have not tried my boots on the quad yet but will do before I haul it in to the dealer for adjustments. Funny thing about this quad. One day it works great with no problems and the next day problems after problems. I guess it has it's good day and bad too.
