Default Eiger Rear Axle Problem

Hi: New to the forum -- Just passing on some info. I have a 02 Eiger manual, just over 2,000 Miles on it I have had very few problems with it. most just normal Eiger problems until 2 weeks ago. I was riding in Allegheny Nat, Forest and noticed a squeal from quad every once in awhile. checked everything I could and found nothing, thought maybe something in the brakes about 2 miles later it got worse. I had a couple guys pick up the back end & the Left rear wheel droped down about 1/2 inch. I went to shake it and the whole Axle pulled right out of the rear gear! 2 outer bearings went bad at the end of the tube! those bearings are the only thing that holds the axle's in. Water must have gotten in through the seal. After $ 90.00 worth of parts ( Hub, Seal, Bearings, & C - Clip ) back on the trails.

Just wanted to give the info so there are no accidents from this happening to someone

Thats why ya gotta check er out. Now take a close look at those front bearings and a close look at the calipers. Its a good idea to take em off and clean em.

At 2000mi its a good idea to jack it up and go over it front to back.

Check out all your welds, Suzuki is known for weaker frames. I had to reweld my swing arm. (I jumped OVER a Rincon, the landing was perfect, but my u-joint ripped out. )

Front brakes, Mine last about 1000miles. (I AM a QUAD ABUSER, afterall )
-Clean and grease the slide pins.
-Your brakes are the first things in the mud!!

Front wheel bearings. Make sure nothing is wrapped around the CV joints and check out the boots.

Check swing arm bushings and axle bearings (especially for wire wrapped around crucial parts).

Change all your fluids and filters. (You do have a fuel filter, right ) (dont forget the lil screen filter in the fuel line into the carb, especially if you dont have a fuel filter.)

Adjust yer valves, install 132 jet, drill yer airbox lid (inside tube), Trim out the snorkel opening, put a small lock washer under the needle, Pull out the spark arrester and clean it (maybe add a hole or 6),

This is all pretty easy to do. This is a great time to add any mods you may have. (heated grips , back-up light, etc.)

I've got 3600 on mine and she runs great!!! All is in great shape except the front bumper ($300!!!!!!!)

I RIDE WITH A BIG GROUP OF HARD RIDING, BEER DRINKING, QUAD ABUSING SOBs and am PROUD of my EIGER!!!

I LOVE THIS THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eiger2 you and me would get along great...hahaha...Eigers are very cableable if you drive them like the milatary is chasing you...and yes, redneck mods that include a drill bit are free and work just like them $300 pipes, hell mine sounds just like an HMF pipe......Beer drinking when not riding of course though...hehe

As soon as you notice squeling coming from the rear of your quad then the one side of the back wheel bearing have to be replaced. THats how we knew it was time to the change them out on all our honda 350's

We've never been up north, but we go to windrock a lot.

Check out some pic here.

Or you can check out the club I ride with, here.
