New To Me Eiger Questions
#1
I just picked up a 2002 Eiger 4x4 automatic.
I am going to try to find a manual today, but in the meantime I had a couple of questions.
1.) what is the lever you can rotate up or down around the left handlebar. I first thought it was the choke, but moving it back and forth doesn't seem to affect the engine idle much.
2.) This is the first automatic I have owned. Where is the check for the transmission fluid.
3.) I am assuming I can switch back and forth between 2wd and 4wd without backing up to disengage the 4wd like the pickups of the old days. Is that correct?
Thanks,
ekyle

This is the choke. Up is off and down is on.

Tranny uses the crankcase oil.

Per the manual you should be completely stopped before shifting 2wd/4wd. I actually broke the shifter mechanism (cheap plastic block inside) shifting from 4wd to 2wd will moving about 5mph.

If the lever operates vertically on the left bar I would definately think it is the choke that is where mine is and you won't have any problem switching from 2x to 4x on fly at low speeds as long as your front wheels are moving at the same speed as your rear wheels. While my machine has performed virtually flawless I wish I would have gotten the automatic transmission on mine if you know anyone that wants to trade let me know

You are correct,Sir. But switching from 2-4 on the fly is hard on the parts. Of course if yer gonna do it, it's best to have all wheels spinning at the same time. The biggest problem I've seen is the cable stretching or breaking.
The auto is a sweet machine that takes some getting used to. I thought autos were for losers, then a loser friend got one, I rode it and fell in love with it. Its definately not a Brute Force when it comes to throttle response, and you need to let er "wind up" a bit when trying to hop over a log, but it performs virtually the same as the 5 speed.

I ordered a service manual from: http://www.187rideeasy.com
The part number is: 99500-43043-01E
$39 + ship
Sometimes you can get an even better price if you call them.
