adding grease inserts on the z400 a arms
#1
i was wondering if i should drill holes in my a arms where they hook up to the frame and then add grease inserts. Ive had my z for about 4 months and have never took the a arms apart to grease them. what does everyone else do? is it even possible to add grease inserts?
should i just take the a arms off and apply grease to the bushings? the same with my girlfriends z250. both are 05' models. im not sure how important it is because the quad didnt come with any? I only ask because my friends raptor and preadtor both come with grease inserts. any info will help.

They're needle bearings, not bushings, and you have to disassemble them, pull the spacers and grease the bearing without losing the needles (or replace them obviously). I've read about guys installing zerks on them but it's tedious because there isn't much clearance in there. When I do them again this winter I'm replacing mine with a teflon bushing kit from Richards. I think it runs about $80 for the set, but no more messing with those stupid needle bearings.

Something else you can do is drill and tap for zerks. Grease. Remove the zerk and put a plug in until the next time you plan to grease. It is a bit more of a pain but does allow added clearance in spots where the zerk would get broken off.

thanks for the info. i have a few more ques for you if you could help. first of all when you refer to grease zerks is that the same thing as grease fittings? Also how often do you take apart the bearings and grease them? if i was to add grease zerks what size diameter should i choose. will the grease gun push the grease through the needle bearings? do u suggest i go through this trouble or just take them apart and grease them regularly like you suggested? anything will help me. thanks

Hello,
You seem like you know what your talking about.
Do you know whenever you put your spacers into the bushings. Was the some kind of rubber seal stuch to the bearing wall? to support the spacers within the A arm wall.
It just seems like the should be something there.
I have inserted both upper and lower A arm bushings and have bought new genuine suzuki spacers.. there is no rubber on them.
The only rubber seals I have in the A arms is the small dust and water covers, but there not for support, they are only 1mm wide.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
