Default King quad lowing blue smoke

Today I got a phone call from suzuki anada to bring my quad to the dealer to see why it is blow blue smoke out exhaust. It took me numerous phone calls, more than two weeks of calls to get this appointment, it seems like they don't want to admit ther flagship bikes burn oil. I beleive this is the result of a poor air filter setup, as I find dust under my filter after a ride of 3hours or more, check your filters, they are garbage even the dealer says thye are junk and it was just a cost saving measure for suzuki which is coming back to bite them on the ***. Right now I k now of 8 machines that are burning oil and that is just me. so how many more are out there. Start your bike up burp the the throttle if blue comes out call your dealer right away, the more that complain the more that will get repaired. read the other forums. there are lots of us guys with problem.

Join the club. Suzuki has a major problem here and I'm not talking about the low-end lag. Brand new bikes are burning up in an incredably short period of time. They say to check your filter and replace it regularly, but if you go on a 100 mile ride in dusty conditions, you already damaged your engine. If you check your filter and find dirt in the intake, it's too late. All that tells you is the filter has ALREADY failed, not that its about to fail. In fact, a dirty filter should choke out an engine long before it passes enough dust to destroy a new engine. To make matters worse, Suzuki wont even acknowledge a problem and fix it. They are selling brand new quads, every day, with a known problem.

I guess I'm lucky, Suzuki is going to pay for the rebuild, (if you call needing a rebuild with 750 miles on a new quad lucky). The fact is I bought my quad in late april and I will have been without it for at least 2 months because it took a month to get Suzuki to approve the repair and will take, at least another month to get the parts and repairs completed. Yeah, I'm really dissapointed in my decision to buy the "quad of the year", I would be suprised of it ever happens again. More like "fraud of the year".

I've hearing about this and I'm getting worried. Mine isn't blowing any blue smoke, so does that mean all I need to do is get a Uni Filter or Twin Air and it'll be fine? Also, is it the paper filter itself that's letting dirt and dust through or is it because the filter's not sealed properly.

Mine has over 1000kms on it and no smoke. 2 weeks ago I was out for 3 days on a trip with 7 other guys riding dusty trails and had yet to service my quad. I read this forum and went to the garage to check the filter, it was a bit dusty on the outside, pulled it out and checked the intake, clean as a whistle.

However I must mention that when I first bought the quad and looked at the filter I found it was not screwed down as tight as it could be so I removed it, reseated it and turned the nut down as tight as I could by hand. Tonight is only the second time I have removed the air filter and over the past 4 months I have driven all kinds of conditions. Let's think about it, how many quads did they sell this year in Canada & the US and how many are having this problem? I would be interested to know what everyone's vin# is and Date of manufacture.

I'll bet what we have is a production flaw within a specific time frame. I ride with many other KQ owners and NONE of us have had ANY of the problems we all see posted in this and other forums. Some of the guys I ride with are flat out nuts in the way they treat their KQ, as for me I would be what I consider to be an average rider, not too conservative, not too wild. Anyway, no smoke, I will be doing an oil change later this week and will post anything if smoke should show up.

ES,

Great to hear! .....and my thoughts are that even if there is a problem outside a small timeframe that the bikes were manufactered that people probably still replace the air filter right away or constantly check it. At least more people are educated on what to do! If I buy a KQ there is no way I would have known about any of this if I didn't do an atv forum type search on google this past summer that led me here!

Great post though!

Yeah I've learned a ton from this site too.
Now about the filter problems, I don't have any dust or dirt in my intake after 800+ miles and I still have the stock filter, I am a lucky one, because paying $7000+ for a quad I wouldn't of ever thought that I'd have to worry about a little paper air filter wrecking the engine. Suzuki's been making motorcycles and quads for years you'd think they'd know a thing or two about how important an air filter is.

It's true Suzuki has been making bikes for years, but what about the reverse problem, and why did they take a Kawaski and put suzuki's name on it. Makes you wonder! Before I bought this bike I had another but it had the serial number which indicated it was a machine without the bearing on the reverse shaft, the dealer gave me my money back. He said suzuki never told him about the reverse problem, don't trust anbody dealers or companies. They know there is a problem with the filter,a nd I'm sure it will all become common knowledge soon enough.

After reading the post on the oil problem,it sounds like a broken oil ring, which is sometimes caused by overeheating are over reving the engine...and sometimes it just breaks..likea lot of things we buy! I really don't think the new Quads are built at the same quality that the old ones were built. I really don't think the air filter is the problem, unless there was a lot of water sucked down the EFI.....just a 50c thought.....

700 miles running a twin air ..... no problems whatsoever with this quad. I ride this machine fast and it handles everything I throw at it. I always avoid riding in dust storms or to close to the guy in front of me if it is dusty...if I am eating and breathing dust so is the machine!
