Good golly no. You cant MX that thing. Its WAY too big. Those bikes are too big to race on a track and even with improved suspension they dont handle as well as the smaller bikes.
Built right they can drag race and make nice dune machines.
Like any other 2 stroke, run it lean and its gonna have a melt down. Run it too rich and you dont get top performance.
The weak spot of the motor it the crank bearings and seals. They have a tendancy to go bad and then suck air causing the motor to run lean , then Bingo, meltdown.
Great duner, horrible racer.

They are just a touch smaller than the DS650, and weighs just about 400lbs full of fluids. There are much better quads for either mx or xc/enduro riding. If you could find a open class to race it in it could be competitive though. They are mostly just fun play bikes, although a few have found a good life as hill shooters and dune runners. The motor has some known reliability issues, but people have kept a good number running anyway If racing is your goal, I would probably look elsewhere. If being unique and having a ton of raw horsepower is your thing, then go for it. BTW, the Nov issue of ATV Sport has an article about the LT250/500 series. Pretty decent article, although they have the 500 listed as air-cooled, it's liquid cooled.

This quad was originially designed as a race quad, MX open class.... Since there never was any competition built to race against it, it was in a league all it's own.
Yes, there are other quads that are much better on a track (insert favorite 250R comment here).
The 500 still does fairly well MXing... It's no bigger than a banshee, and within a few pounds of it also...
It fits larger riders better than the others, with the comfort level being very good. The power dept. is where it really shines. Low end grunt / torque of a 4 stroke only gobs more of it.
As stated, there are some design shortfalls with the motor, once these are corrected, reliability is easily achieved.
