Default Warn winch for snow plowing

Got a King Quad a couple of months ago. Like it alot so far. Not really broken in yet. Am ordering a snow plow for this winter and all the literature I'm seeing(at least on Warn plows) says a mechanical brake on the winch is "strongly recommended". Got the $70 Warn special when I bought the machine. Sure it's probably NOT the 2.5 that has the mechanical brake.(Dealer can't seem to tell me as their part numbers on my records are different than Warns). Anyway, what happens if you use the plow with no mechanical brake? According to Warn tech person the internal parts need to be replaced or something to add the brake. I don't want to get into this if I don't have to and I don't want to buy another winch. Has anyone had problems?

Default Warn winch for snow plowing

I just bought my new Vinson a month ago with the $70 special on the Warn winch. It is the 2500ci Warn winch. Works great! Nothing else needed.

Since I installed it myself, I have the original box that it came in. Here are the numbers that are on the label from Warn:
Part Number (on upper portion of label) 66484
Bar Code 12784-66484
Part Number (on lower portion of label) 99000-990YW-016
Description Rev Level WINCH 2.5ci SUZUKI PRE-WIRE

I have a 2.0 Warn winch with a 48" Warn plow and to the best of my knowledge my winch does not have a brake and I haven't had a problem yet. Hopefully someone will chime in with a little more info about the brake but I haven't had a problem yet.
