King Quad smoking due to BAD FILTER! Pictures

60 pounds of compression and almost 100% leakage.Rings worn out dirt was getting into the engine past the air filter just like you guys said.I have not ran into this problem before with me or any of the ones we had sold guess we have just been lucky. As far as the grease on the bottom of the filter,i guess that would help some, but that's not a good solution. If it were Suzuki would issue a bulletin recommending that it be done upon initial assembly.Anyway i'll see what suzuki says on tuesday.More good news for everyone is that piston, rings, and cylinder are all on backorder.

Richie,
Sorry to hear that, but you are definitely not the only one experiencing it. I dont think anyone is "lucky", they just dont have the mileage on the King to start experiencing problems from that (@#(*# FILTER!
I've been trying to call Suzuki all week, but i guess they are on holiday break. I will be calling next week for sure, but we need more dealers (like you) to start expressing concern too. I can't believe that a bulletin/alert hasnt been initiated. This is a S E R I O U S problem!!
The bottom line is Suzuki better pull their head out. Nobody wants to buy a 7K machine that lasts less than one year!

Well the Uni filters are on back order too. I ordered one the day I picked my KQ up and was told it would be 3 weeks till it came in. I have been riding on the stock filter because I did not spend all that money to have it sit around for 3 weeks. I will be interested to see what my stock fiter looks like when the Uni does come in.
Richie 12,
Since you have a dealership when you guys are doing service on these quads does the stock filter appear alot dirtier than the filter on other quads that you service?

Ok- I've checked my filter at 100 miles and had the service done per the manual. I will check my filter tonight when I get home. I searched the web for a uni filter and a twin filter and have not been able to find the model for the 05 KING. I have called the dealer and they have not had any recalls or complaints about smoking or dirty filters. I had all the recall stuff done since my KING is of the early models. It has not let me down at all.
I did notice the FI light come on last week when I was herding cows in the brush. I was riding real hard and noticed the light on and I stopped and let the engine idle, made sure my fan was working and that I had fluid. Shut the machine down for 5 min. or less and fired her back up the FI light did not come on again.
I want to up grade my filter anyway. I just need a source.

Megan! The twin air filters are in stock! They had mine to me in two days! the twin air comes as a complete filter replacement kit not just a filter! The cage that comes with it goes inside the filter and makes for a better seal to the bottom of the air box! nice looking set up! Just another option if you don't want to wait!

The real issue isn't the filter being dirty, its the dust/dirt going into the engine.
What you need to do is look inside and down towards the butterfly. If you see ANY dirt in there...well, you among the rest of us.
To be certain, take a screwdriver or something long and wrap a tissue or something around it and swab the area. If it comes up dirty, you've been bitten.
My fingers are crossed for ya!

10-4.
I guess this is kind of like the the throttle body portion. I will clean the area and continue my search for a filter. I have not found the twin air site just yet. I did find the uni filter site but, they did not have the King listed.
