z400 corroding
#82
Whoa!!!
I just bought my KFX in September ('05 leftover), only ridden it a handful of times. I took the water inlet cover off to inspect it, and there is some corrosion to the metal, but I was amazed at the scale buildup. This wasn't just gunk, I had to scrape it all out with a screwdriver.
My dealer told me if there's no recall on it, then it's my bill if I want it repaired. He told me to call the Kawi customer service number. This was before I had opened it up and inspected it. I think I may bring some pictures to them to see.
Pics of when I initially opened it, and after cleaning...

It's the clutch cover. You can see it in the pictures rpx400 just posted as well as many others on here and other websites.
Kawiking, did you make that off road a link or is that another automatic advertisement on this board? Guess I'll know after I post this.

Anyone who still needs a replacement cover, go over to www.advantagecyclelc.com
This place is offering a kit for $150 that includes everything you need, even an oil filter. They also have a kit with the water pump housing and assy.
I ordered my kit Thursday and got e-mail confirmation that it was shipped DHL on Friday.
If Suzuki does take the blame for this, it's going to take months and months to get anything done. Waiting for your dealer to do the right thing it probably going to be a waste of time for 90% of us.

can you use engine ice on a 05-06 or do you have to use evens. the engine ice is de-ionized not delutted(???).
it should work with a 05-06 , right. the 04 alum is the way to go.
what are the dealerships doing if its under warrenty? im sure they are useing 05-06 covers.

As my deal put it to me, and as someone else has said as well.
is "its limited cases"
I laughed, then add yes, limted to the 05-06. That was agreed apon. But hear is my though.
I know everyone else has said just replace the clutch cover. But what about the water pump and the water cooled head? Is it just cuz of the pump and the small hole it forced through on the clutch cover that is causing it to corrod?
Or should I mind as well replay the whole pump assembly too?
What are other thoughts?
