Default SMOKING KINGQUAD

I HAVE NOT HAD MY KINGQUAD FOR LONG (1000MILES), AND ITS SMOKING. I HAVE KEPT UP WITH NUMEROUS OTHER OWNERS ON THIS SITE THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. IT INITIALLY STARTED SMOKING JUST A LITTLE AFTER STARTUP, BUT NOW IT DOES IT THEN AND AFTER ACCELERATING AND BACKING OFF THE GAS, SMOKE WILL PUFF OUT FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS. ALONG WITH THIS IT ALSO CONSUMES MORE THAN A TYPICAL AMOUNT OF OIL USALLY ASSOCIATED WITH HARD RIDING, IN WHICH ITS ALREADY BEEN CHANGED TWICE IN THIS TIME FRAME. I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, BUT I DONT THINK I WILL BE SATISFIED WITH A REBUILT MOTOR ON A NEW QUAD, NOT TO MENTION THE $7000 PRICE TAG, AND ITS ALREADY SMOKING. JUST CURIOUS IF ANY KING OWNERS FEEL THE SAME WAY AND HAVE TOOK ACTION ACCORDINGLY.

Greybullett the problem is your air filter, it is leaking dust into the head, and I hate to tell you this but the head and piston are toast. How do I know, well at about 1500 miles and 2.9 months of ownership my KQ was doing the same thing. When I looked closely I noticed dirt on the the intake butterfly even though I took meticulous care of the filter.

The Dealer confirmed that there was dirt in the head, and after about 6weeks in the shop waiting for parts it was repaired. I had about a week on the warrenty so Suzuki picked up about a $1200 tab. Suzuki also agreed there was a problem with the Filter after a lot of talk with the head technitian at the dealership, and paid for a new Uni filter.

Actually, I like the KQ so much, that I bought another one just like the other while waiting for the parts and repairs. They also replaced the filter in that with an Uni. Since the change I have had no problems with either bike.

I have heard of some dealers not getting cooperation from local Suzuki Reps on this situation, but providing them copies of these messages did get them to sit up and take notice. Frankly, I am real suprised Suzuki has been dragging their feet on this, not to mention that they are not more pro-active in getting those crappy paper filters out of new machines. I wish I had a name and address of Mr. Suzuki, himself as I would really like him, or her as the case may be, to know what is happening with with I consider an other wise great ATV.

GrayBullet,

I had the same thing on my KQ with 739 miles on it. I went to my dealer, I was out of warrenty.. But He, and I contacted Suzuki, and I got an upper end rebuild. Piston, rings, cylender or jug, and assoc. gaskets. Suzuki did pay for it. It was because of the air filter sucking in dirt. Take your filter out and look down the openning, if you see dust on top of that butterfly,,leave it there. and bring it to your dealer and have them contact Suzuki. This is an ongoing issue with the KingQuads, and they arent recalling them yet. I did get mine covered, but it cost me over $80 to get a Twin-Air filter for it.

I also have had my enigine rebuilt after 600 miles of normal riding. When I checked my air filter the intake was covered with dust. The dealer kind of dragged his feet on the repair, so I contacted suzuki myself, and they finally gave the dealer the go ahead for new rings jug gasket, but i had to buy a new uni filter myself, what a cheap company. now I have this cold starting problem, and I don't know wether to get a new ecm or not. I understand that most of the guys with the new ecm have lost about 10 mph off the top end. I asked the suzuki dealer but he doesn't know anything. Good luck dealing with this stupid company.I also heard but cannot verify that Suzuki put the wrong rings in the bike, just a rumour, but this also happened in Mexico to john Deere tractor, over 2000 were recalled and rebuilt at the factory. At least john Deere recalled them unlike suzuki. Well that's the differnce between Japan and America.
