thanks mucky for all your help! one last ? , if you had to start over again, would you go athena 434 or the 440?
if i'm going to save the money i dont want to be disapointed or wish i would have picked door #2. what do you think about a 440 with th 13:1 piston or even 12:1? i would like it to be close to a yfz with pipe and filter but still reliable.
thanks for all the info, hope your bike goes back together alright.

SORRY BLACK i forgot about your 440. i'm not sure if i want to use that high of compression. i'm still going for the reliability aspect of the hole thing. yes i want to be quiker , no, i dont want to work on it all the time or break something.
i think the highest i'd go is 13:1, i thought the factory comp. was 12:1, i swear i read that somewhere. ive heard from others it's 11:1. does anybody know?

11.3:1 according to the site.

I know what you mean about the reliability. The athena is a good setup. What you get is an entirely new cylinder with larger water passages and thus better cooling to maintain the higher heat the new slug would put out.
Other than that I would look into the Maxpower 450 kit or the 455 rocket if you aren't worried about the MX 450cc limit.
And if you arent worried about that, then why not go with mucky on Tudor's 470kit.

Sorry to highjack Mucky!

why does hot cams say that changing to the stage 2 intake cam is recommended for woods racing??? it recommends both for mx and desert riding. it says stage 2 intake good for big bores and strokers. so looking at the site it has stage 1 intake and exhaust , but only a stage 2 intake??? if you go with a bigbore what do you get?? stage 1 exhaust and stage 2 intake??

#1 I believe they recommend the stage II because it has a different lobe, and from what I am told it provides lower torque down low (woods, etc). It also provides decompression for starting.
#2 Yes a port and polish could hurt your bottom end. porting is for higher RPM's to provide better flow.
Chances are, if you are going with a big bore, the notice will be very small or non-existent as the big bore will more than make it up. Also the big bore will take advantage of the port job, especially with the cams.
Now, without an aftermarket cdi, the above mentioned won't live up to it's full potential. porting and cams are for making power up top, and you should increase your rev limiter to take advantage of that. With higher RPM's you should also look at DRZ-E valvesprings or the one's mucky mentioned above. Also an aftermarket carb such as the FCR 39mm-41mm will also improve performance.

i have a procom adjustible cdi, it has a +1000 rpm and a +2000. i have it set on +1000 right now. so i guess id go with a stage 1 exhaust and a stage 2 intake from hot cams?? im looking for a used yfz carb , i think its a 39mm??? prob go with tha 434 athena kit, still thinking about the 440. either 12:1 comp or the 13:1.(prob 12:1).
