You need something to assemble it with. Either use a good coating of oil, or I use a bottle of assembly lube (I think its permetex brand). It's red, and I got it at my local Advance Auto. I've use it on everything from quads to VW's.

When doing the top ends I've done, I always used a fair amount of Marvel Mystery Oil. Not sure if that's good or bad, but it has worked for me so far...

It's more like a 1920's version of Slick 50.

You can build a motor with virtually any lube you want. So long as the oil pump can move fresh oil through the sytem, the 'build lube' will be washed away in the first few seconds of engine run-time.

Might as well just use the same oil you're going to run. No need for anything special, IMO.

I am also about to start assy on new motor had a rod bearing failure. I have seen people talk about Vince's Cycle on here that place is awesome and his knowledge of the 230 is second to none. I highly recommend his service, and he is very friendly and answers any tech question you can think of. I m building a .80 over 10:25-1 230. It should scream.

I got my new stator installed, and the repaired and painted side cover on. I did an oil and filter change on it as well. Now, my headlight is as bright at idle as it was at RPM before, and gets super bright just off idle once the revs come up. I've just got to get a regulator/rectifier now to convert to DC voltage, and I should be good to go with my HID!

Oh wow! Lots of fun projects going on here!

I'm trying to decide whether I should strip everything from the frame and rattle can the rusty and bare spots.
There's not much to these things, is there.
I wasn't planning to go so in depth with the quad, but it is so close to being stripped it won't take much more.

Meanwhile, parts orders are trickling in.
