Oil rings are bad. The lever is compression release.

Open up the garage first, you don't want to die. Run-it for a while and see if the smoke clears up, could be bad valve seals or oil in the top end, not likely, but my old 230 smoked until it got warm, but then the engine blew because someone rebuilt the top end on a bad rod.

It's an old bike. It's going to need some work to get it into the shape that it was when you owned one before.

You need to look at this as a learning opportunity, otherwise it's going to cost you a whole lot of money to get this thing running properly when you have to take it some where.

Enough that you could just buy a newer atv that doesn't require as much work.

Remember the mixture screw I said to turn 1.5 turns out? Turn it out (or in) more until you don't have to work the trottle to keep it running. But no more than 3 turns out. Its possible you didn't get all the corrosion out of the hole with the wire. Actually I use really super small drill bits for that. That corrosion can be pretty stubborn.

Also you can turn in the idle speed screw until you don't have to work the throttle.

The 1st step is to get it to idle. Then turn the mixture screw until the rpms pick up. Then turn out the idle speed screw to slow the engine back down. Then back to mixture screw to get idle speed up. Then turn idle speed down. You find the right setting when the idle stops increasing as you turn the mixture screw.

For you guys who have changed your handle bars.

What height did you go with? Do you like that height?

Also, what all did you do to clean up the bars? So far, I have removed the headlight, the headlight/engine run switch, and the parking brake cable.

I want to also replace the key switch with a lanyard kill switch and maybe move the decompression lever somewhere else. I need to leave the decompression capability operating. Maybe I could move the lever off of the handlebars underneath the plastic somewhere?

Can I use a generic clutch lever to get git rid of the big parking brake assembly?

You cant change it to a manual clutch without changing the engine out. Sorry

i think the engine is trashed. it is pouring smoke and a little oil out the pipe. also just found a hairline crack in the main case. have a small amount of smoke coming ot of it. would it maybe just be a more economical and easier fix to just put a different engine in it? 2-strokes are a whole lot cheaper to rebuild. would a 2-stroke fit in the chassis?
