I called Vince right after buying my 230 (around mid August 07) cause I was going to order some stuff from him, unfortunately he was moving away from the 230 stuff but his passion for the quad was unquestionable. We must have talked for about an hour and a half and his knowledge was astounding...so it will be nice to talk with him again. I will let everyone know what I find out, hopefully I can keep it straight. [img][/img]</end quote></div>
Yeah, he likes to BS about the 230 for a long time. Although there are a couple things I wanted to see for myself. Like he told me the 230 doesnt flow any better after .280 lift, therefore its pointless to have a high lift cam. He also said porting doesnt do anything to the 230. Just a waste of time. I dont know, that's something I'm gonna have to see for myself. And,,, if I can get the flow to increase by porting, that means that .280 lift stuff flew out the window. But I have to build a flow bench before I can even start porting. And before I can do that I have to build a 24x30 steel building that's laying in 100 pieces in my yard. And since its 27 degrees out now, so much for digging a foundation and getting concrete to set up right. But my garage is so crowded with crap I have to go back outside to turn around. So, I'm kinda at a standstill, drowning in projects and not sure what to do first.

Oh, while we have the case apart, might as well make up our minds if we want to swap out 4th gear. I "think" the 250s 4th gears will work in the 230. I dont see why it wouldn't... Every other gear is the same, just 4th is different. Of course that would mean finding them, but once found they only cost $50 a gear, for a total of $100.
The 230 had a 22/27 combo for 4th and the 250 had a 19/24 combo.... A little bit lower ratio and closer to 3rd.

The 250r shocks looks a lot like the 250s shocks... Hmmm... I know the 250s rides like a cloud compared to the 230s. Only difference are the longer arms and shocks.</end quote></div>
From my limited knowledge and the reason I had asked him what year 250R he pulled the shocks from was because I was pretty sure the 85-86 250R's shocks were much shorter then the later years 87 on. So basically the 250S and 85-86 250R have the same length shocks.
I was going to be amazed if he said an 87 or later since they are 15.00" and it looked like he had just bolted them straight on without any mods.

Well everyone's opinions are tainted by thier own experiences and beliefs so I normally try to take what I hear/learn from others with a grain of salt and incorporate what I think is relavant or correct and run with it if you will.
Working with steel in cold temps is not particulary enjoyable, especially if you happen to pinch, whack or drop it on yourself.

A little bit lower ratio and closer to 3rd.</end quote></div>
Aaack, if I add much more then I am going to have to get a 2nd job just to support this quad habbit

Yeah, the steel in the cold is really bad, but it could be worse,,, at least its not aluminum! That stuff will suck the heat out so fast you could have frost bite on your feet and be sweating on your head at the same time.
Right now I'm still trying to round up the blocks n concrete. Hopefully it will warm up in the next few days so I can get some diggin done and get the concrete set up. But usually when it gets warm it rains. The weather never cooperates.
