Running lean makes them blue like that. Lean makes the engine too hot. Also, I've heard something with the timing too can cause that. But who knows, they may have turned blue even if the engine was running perfect.
They always say you wanna be a bit on the rich side so you dont weld your piston to the wall or cause detonation that can blow a hole in the piston top. I like to be on the lean side because I do all my riding 1-2000 ft above where I do all my tuning work.
If I had to get an exhaust stud, I wouldnt wait for one to be delivered either. Just cut the head off a bolt from the hardware store or just use the bolt like 270 said.

I got an off topic question for you guys.... The place I like to do most of my riding always has broken window glass in the parking lot. I've talked with guys that had their truck broken into before that way. And everytime I go, there is new glass laying there. I know its just a matter of time before I get hit. Wonder what I could do to scoot the odds a little better in my favor? I've thought of cameras n signs telling a would-be window smasher he is on tape. I usually empty the truck n take the face off the radio and open the glove box, but I don't really want to go as far as leaving the windows down. Any novel ideas?
I've also thought of instead of deer hunting, go jackazz hunting. Perch myself up in a tree stand a distance off with a rifle n wait. Put some nice bait in there like a wallet or wad of cash, lol. Could be doing a lot of waiting though when I could be riding.

i think jackass hunting would be suffice,i mean afterall they prob sit in the woods and wait too!as for exhaust ,even tho that is graet idea for making a stud,i have allen head bolts in the exhaust. i think they are easier when removing. Hole is coveres su crud cant get at the bolt like a stud can

Well, if they sat in the woods there would have to be a truck around somewhere. Its pretty far off the main rd.
I think you have to be carefull with the threads in the head taking the bolt in and out all the time. That's why they put studs in so they never have to be removed. Put some red thread locker on them and forget it. Then just use the nut on the stud to torque down your exhaust.
