Trimming pounds off the 230 was one of my goals durining bulid up. By cutting the lighting and some of the electrical system, a moddest loss can be seen. No lights, no regulator, dimmer/on off switch, or ignition switch. Aftermarket bars, a (non zuki) thumb throttle......... I dont think ive ever heard anyone comment on that one. I was shure Id get a few (whatca do that for) comments.
All in an effort to trim down. Of course with HD wheels, 6 ply tires. wheel spacers and that damed "stock" length axle, Im right back plus a few. Oh well.

Yeah, I wish I'd shelled out a few more bucks for the TracStars tires. They only weigh 13lbs. But I did get the .160 rims to save a little.
I've thought about drilling "strategic" holes in the frame and where ever to save a lb or 2. I'd have to be pretty bored to do that one. Never know though....

One of you welder type FAB guys (or gals) needs to come up with a aluminum belly pan/engine guard for the 230. Id luv to have a diamond plate, tig welded, 3/8" thick belly pan. Id give good money for that. Sale a couple ,or six, and that would be a good start to some extra 230 cash.
Thers is a local guy that builds aluminum truck boxs to order. I wonder? I could take the 230 to him and ask him to fit me one. I could then customize to suit. hmmmm.

Wow, flash back time!! I remember about 1981-82? in one of the BMX magazines some stud pro rider had pixs of his bike with holes drilled every where!! Being 11-12yrs old and easily influenced, me and my friends proceeded to drill away!!
With in 2 weeks, we had broken bikes all over the place!!! Ah, the good ole days.

Randy, back to welding for a sec. Can you weld galvanized steel? For some reason I have it in my head that you aren't supposed to due to the fumes the coating puts off? I don't know if I heard/read or just imagined it....

Yeah, you can weld it, but don't breathe the fumes. Have good ventilation (ie. do it outside). The galvanized will burn like magnesium and turn into white powder. I don't know if the welds are affected by that, but I've never had a problem. I've welded lots of galvanized stuff.

They are good and fast! Yours probably just needed repair.
